Look at the Layla 24 (www.echoaudio.com). Street price is just under $700 new. 8 anolog I/O and 8 ADAT I/O plus SPIDF, and very nice converters, solid drivers and excellent support. The M-Audio Delta 1010 has generally the same features (except no ADAT I/O) and costs less. M-Audio's support is poor (at least from the reports on SOFO forums), and they have a history of driver problems that eventually seem to get resolved. However, they have not been cooperating with Sonic Foundry to help resolve driver issues and therefore don't get my business. You will find many folks here that absolutely love the Delta 1010 tho. ;-)

Since I haven't had the doubtful pleasure of dealing with M-audio's support, and haven't had any problems directly related to the card, I'll vouch for M-audio Delta 410 as a good surround card. I think it's roughly $300.

Shoot, look at the Echo Mia. I think you can set up the SPID/f output to transmit DTS or Dolby Digital. Only $200, if that's all you need.

Yes, but Vegas does NOT stream encoded DTS or Dolby Digital, so this would not permit monitoring a Vegas 5.1 project.
