Well unfortunately the question you're asking isn't all that easy to answer. It will be best for you to pick up a book on "What is Midi?" and get a brief understanding of what it is, then you can come and ask some direct questions, that can easily be answered. If you have a guitar center near you, they sell a pretty good book called "How Midi works".

Vegas won't let you use the full potential of your MIDI sound card. You need a program which has MIDI sequencing capability. Something like Cakewalk, Cubase, Digital Performer, or Logic audio.

Or even Acid pro 4[when the bugs have been fixed!] That option is not as powerfull as what rednroll suggested but it would be a great way to "keep it in the family" ;)

I'll post another solution in a bit I'm freakin starving!!! Later.

The EM-1 is a great "live" instument. Just plug the box to your soundcard and record into vegas. What I've done was to set vegas to exactly the same BPM as what the files are being played from the em-1:ie: Em-1 at 140BPM,Vegas=140 bpm...for the purposes of easy editing later. Recoed a 8or16 bar take and "split" what you like and export that to soundforge. From there I acidized it and now I can have fun in acid with the same samples.

I forgot how to sync it so I'll ask a freind and I'll post again. Later.

I'm not at home at the moment, but if you set up Vegas to transmit MTC out of your MIDI interface, plug the MIDI out into your EM-1, set the EM-1 to sync EXT (that's what it is on my ER-1) and then press play in Vegas and your EM-1 should start playing. If I remember, I'll open Vegas when I get home and see what the MIDI options are. Note that if you have a song in the EM-1, Vegas may not transmit enough info to tell the EM-1 where in the song it should be. In pattern mode (once again going off of what my ER-1 has), it should start the pattern immediately. If you start Vegas in the middle of a meaure, you'll get some screwy results.
