Midi software for recording E-drums into Vega

Peter Vred wrote on 8/2/2006, 5:13 AM
I have been recording my Trapkat/TD-12 E-kit
recently via just the 4 audio outputs of the TD-12
into my ECHO Layla (8 in/out) sound card,
and into Vegas audio software.

I can't divide up my drum outputs any more than that with the TD12
and would like to look into using Midi so I can edit the individual drums
more fully later.

My question is:
Is there a good, hopefully free/cheap midi software program that can record my TD12
and more importantly, that can SYNC UP to Vegas?

This is not something I'm going to do alot,
so I don't want to get into something very expensive.

I don't really want to switch away from Vegas either,
been with it too long and don't want to start over with Sonar or the like.

I also don't know much about midi, but my ECHO has midi in/out on it,
so I'm guessing it's a matter of software that will work with Vegas.

Thanks for any suggestions.

>>Hopefully, I'm not stepping on any toes here by posting this information,<<

It is no different than somebody coming into your studio or going to your web site and telling your customers they should check out the studio up the street.

How'd you feel about that?

These forums are intended for the discussion and support of our products, not alternatives to our products. I understand that some don't like our products. I respect that completely. That is their choice to make. Many speak out very vocally on other other forums.

There are hundreds if not thousands of open community forums and news groups that discuss audio software and products. I am sure that you can discuss alternatives to our products at any number of these sites with out any issues.

I am not trying to censor you - and I wont. I am not telling you what to post. I am just asking that you think about it and make your own judgement call on what is the right thing to do.

Thanks,
Peter

I think your products are great on the most part, but he was looking for a "cheap" midi solution to use in conjunction with Vegas. My first recommendation probably would have been Acid, but it didn't seem to totally fit what he was looking for.....especially on the cheap/free option for occassional use. I've seen others recommend using Sonar with Acid many times to overcome some of it's limitations, but I've obviously struck a raw nerve here, so out of respect I have deleted my post.

My apologies for the hurt toes.

Kind regards,
Brad

No appology is needed - and my toes are use to it<g>.

You didn't have to delete you post - really. I was just giving you my opinion.

No problems.

When I posted my original reply, I was having second thoughts and I highly respect your opinion, since I had the same feeling, thus my statement about the toes. Basically, I had a choice to make.

A. Post what I felt was the most useful advice considering the original question.
B. Give the more politically correct answer, to use Acid instead of Vegas.
C. Don't reply at all.

I obviously choose "A" in my first reply. That being said, I loath for the day that there is an effecient method to transfer Vegas and Acid projects back and forth...via EDL support in Acid or some other method, or maybe even a better way to use Acid and Vegas together at the same time, but I won't bring up that method since that seems to be another sore topic. I'm sure my original reply would had been totally different with those abilities.

Everything is ok with me on this side.

Thanks,
Brad

Visit http://www.reaper.fm/ and download this free software that lets you edit Vegas files but also add MIDI. You must export the Vegas file as an EDL (edit decision list) text file in order to load it into Reaper. Then you can add MIDI or do other things, and if you want to put it back into Vegas, just export via EDL again and load into Vegas.

For questions about Reaper, visit the Reaper forum at:

Cheers and good luck.

REAPER... looks like a cool compliment to VEGAS.
(if you choose not to use ACID)

if you want to put it back into Vegas, just export via EDL again and load into Vegas.

* Will VEGAS read the MIDI?
or
* Do you need to Render to WAV from REAPER?
