Mini DVDs

I was wondering how many of you use these.

I understand that despite the fact that they are primarily designed for use in DVD camcorders they will play in most DVD players. It seems that they would make for nice little compact demos for customers to hand out to clients, etc.

If any of you burn these, could you post the Media ID code you have found to be most compatible, printer compatibility, or anything else that would be helpful.

I have made business card CD demos, but they don't hold much, especially video. One is pretty much relegated to a short Mpeg1 video with those.

I've used the Sony ones for digital stills but that's about it. No problems though.

I've burned maybe 50 of the little miniDVDs with a "RitekG04" identifier. They only burn at 4x, but it goes fast because they're small. The front markings indicate they hold 1.46GB each. No issues with them, and people love to get them (and also miniCDs) because of the size novelty.

The only issue that's been brought up from anyone is that the small size won't work with slot-loading drives, which Apple uses on some of their computers. They're also a bit more expensive than full-size blanks.

We bought over 100 Dell computers last year for our labs, and found that NONE of the will read or write to either Mini-CD or Mini-DVD reliably. Usually there are so many problems that you never get a working disc, or id just decides after working once or twice that is needs formatting..

Dell insists it is the software that THEY put on the machines when they sold them to us, and the software company insists that it is a problem with the Dell computer, not their software.

We have tried 3 different software packages, and NONE of them work properly on those Dell machines.

Can anyone find inkjet printables?

Here you go.

Quryous: Get a different support tech. This technology is near-bulletproof, and there is something fundamentally wrong with your situation. I have never had a bad report on either a miniCD or a miniDVD, and this is over literally hundreds of users with widely varying machines, both PCs and Macs.

((YUp..... good for corp jobs when tehy want to slot their material in their laptop bags... good for demo work at trade shows and also have that wow factor for brides... ))

((No dude, tehire designed to work on anythign, I use the prontable riteks, and i havent had a problem. I also use TDK unprintable CD's but the DVDs obviously look nicer.. bloody expensive though.. ))

((Ritkes.. dunno bout the media code ur refering to, but ive never had an isue with them.. on any of my pioneer drives and no issues with my toshiba laptop super multi thingy))

Thanks to all of you who responded. You gave me enough positive input regarding these things to give them a try. I will order the Ritek discs Riredale linked to above.

Regards,

John

Riredale, I agree, something was REALLY wrong. After our own tech, the university's two senior most techs, and two Dell factory techs, we just decided it was the machines. The software and the same "bad" discs worked fine on other machines. Just not on those Dells.

Hi

I have used them already on DVDA 3. I buy verbatim printable in 10 pcs. spindel at www.svp.co.uk - great site, good service, good prices :-)
