Vegas will by default always stretch out the image to the full frame size. After importing the image go into Pan/Crop and drag the cropping rectangle out larger to shrink the image. You can then move the cropping rectangle around to position the image where you want it.

One way is to go into pan/crop and uncheck maintain aspect then resize real small. Then add something else to surround the picture or PIP it to another track. It's been a while since I did this so I might be confused.

Hi ,
Thanks for the replies, I have tried all of the sdjustments suggested but what happens is that it gets to certain size using the pan/crop tools and then will go no further. I know there has to be a limitation but the image is still "relatively" big.

Have you tried using 3D track motion? I believe you can move it on the Z axis back so far that it almost disappears

Or use regular 2D track motion and shrink the image. You can shrink the size all the way to 0x0.

Probably a more direct method is to create an empty image file the size of the video frame (655x480 for SD NTSC, for example), make the background transparent, then paste your image what size and where you want it into this empty image. Save this as a .png with transparency and use this image in Vegas. Then you don't have to futz with anything in Vegas at all.

Thanks Terry! I think you might have saved the day. I have gotten better results and if I had the time Im sure I might do better. What is the difference between this effect and the pan effect?
