Minor snapping problem

I have always just dealt with a small problem with snapping two events together. But I am now editing a problem that a fix, or more efficient workaround would be nice.

I use a simple fade to black, fade from black transition by snapping two events together then dragging the fade offset about 20- to 25- frames. Been doing it this way for years. The problem is if I have already set the fade offset on an event, when I snap it to another event on the same track, my fade offset goes away. I could alternate tracks, but I like to keep my timeline real estate clean.

Any ideas?

I run into this all the time -- the simplest way around this that I can think of is to use the "Fade through Black" disolve transition and just overlap the clips. Of course, the fade down and fade up will always be the same length using this method...

Try turning off Automatic Crossfades.

If that doesn't work try zooming in on the TL so you can leave one frame between events as you bring them together.

In my experience that behavior has been erratic. Even now when I try to reproduce your problem I can't, unless I slightly overlap the events and then let go of the mouse button.
