Missing 2-3 pulldown when reloading old DV project

I am having some puzzling things happen when I attempt to open a project from the deep past in Vegas Pro 11. I believe the original project may have been done in Vegas 4 or 6.

The footage was all shot with and captured from a DVX100b at 24p, and edited in a 29.97 timeline. The DVX100 footage worked great in this workflow because Vegas handled the embedded pulldown perfectly. I archived the project back in 2008 or so. I reloaded the drive into my VP11 machine last night and the project seemed to load fine. Playing back I found a few clips that looked awful. Examining them, I found that Vegas was treating these few clips as pure 24p with no fields. I pulled out my rendered master from the original edit and the clips were fine – pulldown was added correctly.

Looking at the video format column in the Project Media, I see that all the clips that play correctly are listed as “dvsd”. There were 4 clips listed as DV(2-3 pulldown removed) and these did not play correctly. Closed the project down to figure it out today and when I opened the project this morning, only 1 clip is listed as DV (2-3 pulldown removed). The other 3 now play correctly. Closing and opening the project several times, I can’t get the last clip to be interpreted correctly. Clips that were captured immediately before and after this clip with the same settings are fine. The render from 2008 is fine so I know the pulldown was originally handled correctly.

Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there a way to force Vegas to leave the pulldown in 24p DV clips it wants to remove?

Not an expert on telecine, but my installation of Vegas Pro 11 has these Internal settings.

Thanks, John. My internals have those options selected as well. I have been able to get all but one clip handled correctly. Just can't figure out why Vegas chose to remove pulldown from that single clip and wondering if I can force it somehow.

I found it. Learning new things by stumbling into them is always nice.

If you right click the selected clip's "video format" label in Project Media you get a selection option: File format properties. Clicked on it and it brings up a dialog box "AVI/DV properties" which includes a checkbox to allow pulldown removal as well as the ability to designate a frame offset to begin pulldown.

All good now and I learned something.

Since I'm a hard-core tinkerer, I would change the state of "Allow reverse telecine of AVI/DV" just to see what changes. Then I'd burn some brain cells trying to figure it out.
