Missing Audio

richviz wrote on 11/11/2014, 6:55 PM
I am creating DVDs from old VHS tapes using a VHS to DVD recorder. Does a great job but some DVDs require some editing so I am trying to import into Sony Vegas. Following instructions in help, I am able to import the video using "Import DVD Camcorder Disc", however, the audio is not being imported. The video files are .VOB and the audio files are apparently .ac3 (don't know for sure). I am using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Rich

First try opening VTS_01_0.IFO in Vegas. [EDITED]
If that doesn't work:

Post the file properties using MediaInfo.
Demuxing with AVIDemux my be needed.

'Import DVD Camcord camcorder disc' was created for importing video filmed with a camera using mini dvds as a storage medium. It is not intended for what you are doing.

You may be able to copy the vob files directly from dvd to hard drive. That's what I do.

If your VHS tapes were copyright protected, there may be copyright embedded code on the dvd as well, triggering errors in Vegas.
Vegas is notorious for being unable to edit copyright protected materals. I'm not judging anybody. Just giving information.

Ivan -

My problem is not getting the video into Sony Vegas but getting the audio as well.

I am able to copy .vob files to my hard drive but then what. Bottom line is I'm trying to get both into Sony Vegas to edit. I would be fine with an alternate method if one exists including other software if it works.

These tapes are home movies, not copyrighted material.

Thanks, Rich

Apparently you don't have the AC3 codec installed.
It comes with DVD Architect.

[EDIT] You need to open VTS_01_0.IFO in Vegas, my mistake.
If that doesn't work in Movie Studio, let me know.
