Missing audio track

richard-dyszel6471 wrote on 12/27/2021, 1:33 PM

Hi, I had a hard drive failure and want to capture some of my videos form my Roku Channel. I was able to download the material using Black Magic Express HDMI capture. I can play the material on my computer and get both video and audio from the AVI file. When I drop that file into Vegas 19, there is not audio track. The video I put up on my Roku Channel is NOT copy protected and again, I can play the files back on my computer using a variety of programs and when I check the file properties, it shows two stereo channels, but have no audio track when I put in into the editor so I can compress it back down to mp4. Can anyone think of a reason why I'm having this problem?

You don't have the proper codec for the audio channel installed. What is the the actual format of the audio in that file? Can you change it to another format?

I honestly don't know and I don't know how to find out. I can right lick on the file and I can find the # of channels and bit rate but other than that I know it's an an AVI envelope. Can you tell me how to find out?

Post the file's detailed attributes using MediaInfo. If you have not done it before see Nick's FAQ

The audio attributes appear normal and should open the PCM audio Try matching the 'Media Settings' in the project file's 'Properties' menu, The audio is PCM Stereo, 48kHz / 24 bit) If you can open it in another app like Sound Forge, save the audio as a 48k/24 PCM Wave file and import it to VP's timeline.

Thank you for the suggestion. I don't have Sound Forge, but decided to try converting the file into other formats using VLC. the problem was solved with I went to Windows Media. There it was, the audio track. I took it put it together with the video track from the original and I had my finished video that I rendered into MP4. Thanks for heading me down the right path.

Hi, it seems that my solution is a one time affair. I just captures some video from a VHS tape using Black Magic Express and again, the .avi file whont' display audio in Vegas. I've looked around and it seems that this has been a long time problem as the program cannot handle interleave audio,. The solution I keep finding is to download and install DivX H.264 Decoder and FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder. has anyone tried this successfully?
