Missing CODEC Message on Blu-ray Creation

rtbond wrote on 6/2/2008, 4:02 AM
Folks,

While I have successfully created a BDMV ISO image from the Vegas Pro 8 timeline before (Tools=>Burn Disc=> Blu-ray Disc), when I tried this morning I received an error message that a compatible CODEC could not be found (not sure on the exact error message phrasing as I was running out the door at the time)

I had selected the SONY AVC video format option with the "Blu-ray 1440x1080-60i, 15 Mbps" template and the default SONY Wave 64 audio.

Doing a Render As and selecting the same video format and template produces the same error.

As stated above, I have successfully render this way before (and I thought it was with v8.0b).

Any thoughts or suggestions? Is a Vegas re-install in order?

Thanks!

Give AC3 a try, instead of wave 64.

Desktop: PC AMD 3960X, 24x3,8 Mhz * RTX 3080 Ti (12 GB)* Blackmagic Extreme 4K 12G * QNAP Max8 10 Gb Lan * Resolve Studio 18 * Edius X* Blackmagic Pocket 6K/6K Pro, EVA1, FS7

Laptop: ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED * internal HDR preview * i9 12900H with i-GPU Iris XE * 32 GB Ram) * Geforce RTX 3070 TI 8GB * internal HDR preview on the laptop monitor * Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K mini

HDR monitor: ProArt Monitor PA32 UCG-K 1600 nits, Atomos Sumo

Others: Edius NX (Canopus NX)-card in an old XP-System. Edius 4.6 and other systems

Wave64 is not a valid Blu-Ray audio format. Try straight PCM or, as was already suggested, AC3.

I'm not sure that's 100% accurate (based on my experiences, but I could be wrong.) As far as I can tell, when burning a BD directly from Vegas, the only options available under the "audio format" section are Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro (for DD) and Sony Wave64 (for PCM.) On the few test BDs I've burned, I've always used Wave64 with the 48Khz/16bit stereo PCM template and the audio has worked fine.

The last time I checked the Blu-Ray specs, these are the audio formats which are supported:

Linear PCM (LPCM) - up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. (mandatory)
Dolby Digital (DD) - format used for DVDs, 5.1-channel surround sound. (mandatory)
Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) - extension of Dolby Digital, 7.1-channel surround sound. (optional)
Dolby TrueHD - lossless encoding of up to 8 channels of audio. (optional)
DTS Digital Surround - format used for DVDs, 5.1-channel surround sound. (mandatory)
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio - extension of DTS, 7.1-channel surround sound. (optional)
DTS-HD Master Audio - lossless encoding of up to 8 channels of audio. (optional)

I know what the specs are, but isn't PCM really just a .wav file? If I want to include a PCM track on a DVD, I render the audio as a .wav and DVD-A interprets it as a PCM track.

If you could, could you open up Vegas (I'm assuming you're using 8.0b,) choose the Burn BD option, and see what options you have? The only audio options I have are for ac3 and wave64 and I have successfully used wave64 on every test BD I've burned to date. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but my personal experience is running contrary to what you're saying.

Edit: Here's a screenshot showing the options I have: Screenshot

Just a thought, but were you trying to render to a folder that contained some (or all) of the media used in the project? I've gotten I/0 errors because of that before. If that's the case, the solution is simple enough: you just have to specify a different folder to render to.

If all else fails, I would definitely try re-installing Vegas. It can't hurt and may fix something that was accidentally changed (maybe some software that you installed after Vegas isn't playing nice.)
