missing crossfades using multi-camera

I'm brand new to Pro, upgrading from platinum, and just learning to work with the multi-camera editing. I was almost through with a project, when I noticed that ALL of the camera cuts done using the ctrl-key to insert the crossfade had reverted to jump cuts. This was strange, because I had many times switched out of mulit-cam edit mode to watch the video, and the crossfades were definitely there. Is there some key sequence I may have accidentally hit that removed all cross-fades?

thanks

Began tinkering some more and found that if you create crossfades while editing the multicam track, then you go back expand the track , the crossfades will no longer be there when you re-create the single multicam track.

This would have been good to know before I did the whole project, or perhaps there is an option to prevent this? Any advice?

I haven't noticed this, but I don't expand the track when finished with my multicam work.
What I do, however, is to make a copy of my camera tracks, mute them and make my multicam track from the original tracks. This way if I need to make a quick change, I can just cut an event from the backup tracks and put them in a "repair" track above the multicam track.

I don't have to do it often, but it beats "repairing" the damage done by expanding the multicam track.

I generally stay with cuts for multicam, but for an occasional dissolve I just drag one edge over the adjoining event and whilst it cannot be seen in multicamera mode, it stays there after Ctrl/Shift D brings it back to normal mode ready for rendering.

Excellent suggestion! Basically it's like keeping a gold copy within the job. I'll start doing this.

Yep, I definitely know now NOT to expand the tracks, and I did figure out the Ctrl.Shift D.

Still, I find the dissolve/crossfade to be really handy now by holding the Ctrl down while selecting the other camera. It does save time.

On another note, I see thta most people are suggesting 6gig or more RAM. I have 4gig, but I hardly ever show over half being used. Is there a definite improvement noticed by going to more RAM?
