Mixed Aspect Ratios?

Folks, I'm working with a video file that is 99% 4:3, but some short sequences are actually anamorphic 16:9. What I'm trying to do is quickly letterbox those short sequences...

First up I've set up the project properties as 4:3. I then opened the file in the trimmer and cut out each segment according to ratio. I've dropped each of them onto the timeline. I thought I could click on the properties of each segment and change its ratio, but when I do so, all the clips on the timeline change to that ratio too. I've tried deselecting "Maintain Aspect Ratio" just for the heck of it, but so far I'm stumped.

Could somebody please point out what I'm overlooking, or perhaps a quick fix? Thanks!

I think the problem is that you're changing the media properties. Doing that will affect all clips on the T/L that come from the same media.
You might be able to get around this by creating a Subclip in the trimmer.
If that doesn't work, render that portion out to a new media file and bring that back in, then change that media's properties.

Subclips! Brilliant idea and worked like a charm. Thank you for the suggestion.
