Mixing SD 16:9 and 4:3

I have a little bit of a problem. I started filming a project in 4:3 SD 720 X 480 DV onto a Sony minDV camera. I then accidently switched to filming 16:9 SD 720 X 480 DV.

Should I convert my 4:3 footage to 16:9 or should I convert 16:9 to my 4:3 footage? Please explain how to do this as well. I'm using Sony Vegas version 7.0. Thanks!

First question is do you want to end up with a 16:9 video or a 4:3 video?
If the later I'd just crop the 16:9 to 4:3. To do this put everything into a 4:3 project, make certain the 16:9 footage is flagged as 16:9. Then use event pan/crop to cutout a 4:3 frame from the 16:9 frame. You can set the control widget so you can only slide the crop sideways. This makes it easy to pan the crop if you need to adjust the framing.

It doesn't matter what our end target will be. I guess it may be easier and look better if we produced it as 4:3.

I will use the pan/crop to adjust my SD 16:9 to fit my 4:3. What settings do I use in the pan/crop to adjust my 16:9 footage. Do you have the numbers of what I plug in?

If your project is set to 4:3, then in Pan/Crop just right-click on the frame and select Match Output Aspect and you're done. It will crop to the 4:3 aspect of your project.
