mobile AND compact recording??

Not very up-to-speed on the audio recording scene (mostly a video guy)
But its time for me to start using dedicated audio recording equipment.

What i would like, is a small, compact multi-track digital recorder.
With room to store a few hours of audio.(laptops are just too bulky and
delicate for me)

Not having much luck finding anything like this??

With the i-pods and mini-disc recorders out there, you would think it wouldn't be
much of a stretch to turn these into simple multi-track recorders? No?

Any suggestions on products?
thanks

Ipods and minidisc aren't multitrack, only stereo....
And I don't think the Ipod as an line in at the moment..
I think tascam makes some tiny 4 tracks recorders that records on flashcards.
