Modifying Canon Printers for DVD Printing

RStrong,
Re knocking the printer off the counter: not nearly as interesting as Blink3X's trashing of his Epson... Over the years of gathering equipment, I had foolishly placed the printer on a 12" wide counter in back of my chair. I spun around while getting up, and "crash."

The crazy thing is, with the whole right side off and the hinged top lid broken off (I have to gently set the lid down on the glass platen to make copies)... the darned Canon MP600 fired back up tonight and I'm reeling off DVD copies like mad! Oh, well... some great info in this post and a new copier coming in the mail tomorrow good for a backup. Go Canon!!

Really?
Mine have preformed flawlessly. Hp is also the only one I know that offers multiple levels of drivers. You can download the FULL home user driver edition that's pack pretty good, or you can download the business driver set which is pretty slim and stream lined.

HP offers you a choice. What choice do the others offer??

What we're saying is that the driver that comes packaged in the box is the joke and is disposable. Always download the streamlined version instead of using the packaged drivers.

If you like the streamlined version then it's most certainly there for the download. It's all about choice in this world.... and HP does it while others don't.

Right.

Now, why don't they include the streamlined version in the box? Or why not at least tell people it's available? How many folks get saddled with the bloated joke-ware unnecessarily? It's not really a choice when the majority of users never know the option is available.

Well if you read the manual.....

It does state that additional options and drivers are located on site and they do even list that site.

I should point out however that what is "bloatware" to you is not necessarily bloatware to others. HP offers quite a few utilities in their boxed software. They also offer a custom setup on the disk.

Frankly, the bottom line here is that they offer a lot more than any other printer manufacturer..... but yes.... you do need to read the manual to find this out. In fact I very rarely install the supplied software anymore without checking the manufacturers site anymore. 9 times out of 10 the supplied software is out of date anyway.
