Does vegas allow AC3 files too be played directly from the timeline, everytime I try to it says it is an unsupported formatt.I want to be able to preview surround mixes directly out coax digital to my home theatre decoder?
No, you need your source project with the original WAV/MP3 separate channels to do this.
I guess you could decompress the 5.1 into separate WAVs too.
To get an AC3 to be bit by bit generated out of your sound port, you can use mediaplayer.
I guess SoFo figure that your motives might be unorthodox to need AC3 on the timeline, or multichannel MPEG-1-L2 for that matter. Whether they are right or wrong depends on how well you can modify your workflow, and whether you have 5.1 acquisition equipment external to your PC... etc etc.
Maybe SoFo will change this when they realise that in the markets that they sell their wares into unorthodox types don't tend to spend this much on editors/authoring tools, IMHO. ;)
