More Blurry MTS to MP4 video

I'm using MS15 platinum on a Win 10 computer. My problem is rendering interlaced MTS video from a Panasonic camera (file info below) to MP4. Most of my videos have fast motion in them, most are of railroad engines. When I render from MTS to MP4 there is quality loss.

I have linked one of my videos from you tube below. Now this is not my typical video, I usually use a tripod. This is a grab shot held held video at dusk. The MTS file, when played back, is smooth and you can clearly see the engine numbers on the side of the train. In the MP4, the numbers are blurred and jumbled.

I have attached the MTS file straight from the camera.

Any help for suggested settings will be helpful. From a previous post, for project properties Deinterlace Method is set to Interpolate Fields instead of blend fields. I selected "disable resample". I guess I'm needing Render settings?

What are your render settings? (I am glad I re-read your post, my first reaction was get a tripod, or at least a monopod :) )

I've tried so many different MP4 render options that I can't remember. I've tried Magix AVC/ AAC & HEVC/AAC MP4 1080p 29.97 fps. I've mess with the options with in them and I haven't found anything that is to my satisfaction. I guess the render settings is what I really need help on.

I know this is crappy video content, I did it in a rush and didn't have time to set up properly. I am on a newer computer and this was the only MTS file I have on it.

The problem will always be that when going from 29,970 interlaced to 29,970 progressive you will lose quality especially with fast moving objects. Since deinterlacing methods in VMS are poorly, I would suggest to render your project to XDCAM with a 1080i render template and use that render as source for Handbrake. Handbrake deinterlacing methods are far superior.

Can you give us a download of the original MTS file?

And in Handbrake render to 59.940 fps progressive, not 29.970, to preserve the original shooting rate. This should give smoother motion like the original camera file.

Ah, thank you 3Point. I will try XDCAM + Handbrake.

I have the original MTS file attached to the post. The first video that shows up is the link to my Youtube MP4 rendering I did a while back and the second video is the MTS. Hopefully it shows up that away on your screen as it does mine.

 

EricLNZ - thank you. I will try that. Do you suggest Constant Framerate or Peak Framerate?

Also, for the Deinterlace filter, is Decomb/ default preferred? I dabbled with the different options of Decomb & Yadif and the filter settings last night. I didn't come to a conclusion as to what was better since it was getting late and I had tried a bunch of different combinations with MS & Handbrake.

I will experiment with the different settings.

To summarize,

For 1080i/ 60fps video:

Open Movie Studio-

Video Track Settings (Right Click to Select Video):

>Video Event Tab: Select "Disable Resample". Un-Select "Reduce Interlace Flicker"

>Media Tab: Field Order "Upper Field First"

Project Properties:

>Video tab: Field Order "Upper Field First", Frame Rate: "59.94 (Double NTSC)" Full-resolution render quality "Best", Deinterlace Method "Interpolate".

Render As:

XDCAM EX> HQ1920x1080-60i, 35MB VBR (saves as MP4)

In Handbrake-

Preset - Fast 1080p30

Summary Tab - Check "Web Optimized"

Filters Tab - Deinterlace = "Decomb", Preset = "Bob"

Video Tab - Framerate = "59.94 fps", Select "Constant Framerate"

 

I have Optimise Video set to "Slow" and Quality set to "Constant Quality" and 21 on the slider.
