NOTHING was applied in post except titles and the two pan/crops. I did this as a comparison to other footage, so it wouldn't have been fair to modify it in any way.
The footage looks the way it does because....honestly, I know how to set up the camera. I've spent a LOT of time with the z1, whether it's sitting on the couch watching a movie and fiddling with the menus, or whether it's out in the field, shooting. This cam shoots "OK" out of the box, but it shoots wonderfully when it's set up right.
FWIW, the old man shot? He was at the far/long end of the lens when I captured him. Maybe 75 yards away. Looks GREAT. Look at the reds and how solid and clean they are.

For encoding, I just used Vegas wmv template, nothing special.

It DOES look great, that's why I hoped something could be learned ;-)
Forgive my curiousity but I really wonder what your preferred picture profile setup is. I like increased sharpness at 13 and color level at +2. Do you think that's ok for standard shooting situations ?
Thanks
Martin

Yeah, I do. I shoot sharpness at 12/13, and use color level at +1 for one of my profiles. You might look at the thread on this started by Epirb for other settings. I love Black Stretch for some things, but never use it for highly colored images in low light, it eats too much saturation.
I'm doing an article on the various settings of the cam right now, should be done in a couple days.

Wow - that looks great, and isn't that the Aloha Tower Marketplace?

Yes, indeed that is the Aloha tower Market Place, shot from Sand Island.
