Excalabur alone can save many hours of development time. This translates into money if you are charging for your work. I don't mind paying a pitance to the developers for there good work.

Perhaps the forum could develop a thread just for the purpose of anouncing new plugins etc. and people could place info, ads, links there and interested parties could check them out.

Excalabur was ANNOUNCED a long time ago. Announcing is fine. SPOT announced his books and tapes. Satish announces his plug-ins as he releases them. A couple companies announced their products. Even SoFo announces. ONCE. With Excalabur its pushed at every opportunity. That's above and beyond what's appropriate because that is far more than simple announcing. Its advertising on somebody else's web site and then in a peer to peer forum without purchasing any advertising space. That's what I object to and it has nothing to do with who's doing, rather that its being done and I would object to anyone doing it, but the point is nobody else is doing it! Again as I've said repeatedly Excalabur is a fine product.

The whole point is this fourm is about learning how to use Vegas, not to sell something else regardless how good it is. How would you feel if Sony started plugging their TV's or music Videos or adding to threads to tell you to go see such and such movie?

>>I am frequently the FIRST person that answers a question.

That is no kidding. Jetdv was one of the first to help me when I was new here. I haven't fogotten. Note: I want a quarter everytime Jetdv answers if someone can Play All (seperate) clips in the DVD-A forum... :)

>>There should be nothing wrong with that.

There's not.

>>I have a couple of tools.

Excaliber is excellent! Serious time saver.

Jetdv is a real help here in these forums. If his tools are the solution to someone's problem/question, he *ought* to mention them.

Just my $0.02...

This is silly. Ed at jetdv is a great service to this website and the Vegas community. His posts including the one in this thread are helpful and informative.

I, for one, find the rancor and accusations of product hawking uglier than his discreet linking here:

Beyond that, there are some add-ons:
Excalibur
Tsunami

I hardly find that a reason to raise your blood pressure.

If Sofo/Sony has a problem let them set the guidelines. I, for one, don't want the policy of this board to be set by the crankiest members.

Sheesh - give the guy a break - so what if he makes a few bucks - put it to a poll - i bet the majority would like to see guys like him make a few dollars from their work.

You'r over doing this advertising on the forum thing - he is sharing his knowledge, consumers are getting the full info and they can make educated decision now that have all the available info.

There are practically no plugins for Vegas so until there is some great range of free ones, REALLY, what harm is he doing - if he was giving dodgy advise or something or RAVING on about how people should buy it, or posting huge pictures or pages of info then fair enough, but he aint.

Isnt it a case of ANYTHING that promotes Vegas use or its wider acceptanc eand shows people what it can do, and what add on bits are available benificial to the owners of Vegas and the user of Vegas?

My 2 cents:

I do not think the level of promotion or advertising for these Vegas add-ons has been either excessive in amount or annoying in tone. Nor do I quibble with the fact that some of these folks charge a couple a bucks for their tools. On the contrary, more power to'm, and if some $ provides the incentive to create a great tool, I think we all benefit.

I do agree that at some point advertising or promotion along these lines might get annoying. But I think we're far, far from the point where people would associate this very helpful forum with spam or those fliers on your windshield or [insert your pet peeve here].

Granted, these comments are very subjective as to what is annoying.

Lastly, generally, I think Sofo/Sony should be the ones to step in if they think their forum is being hijacked or devalued in any way.

Personally, I would much rather people advertise their plugins/products that definately help me and others than read a reply to a post that totally talks down to the original poster and makes them feel stupid for trying to learn. (run-on sentence but who cares) This has never happened to any of my posts, but resently I have cringed at some things I have read.

Guys, keep the plugins and the plugs coming. It does help new users be aware of your products. If they want to buy, they will. If not, eh. I bought.
