More Vegas 3.0 Findings... stop lockups on rendering...

If anyone else has had this problem... here's how to fix it:

Occasionally, my system was locking up completely while rendering the final audio mix.

My system

AMD Athlon XP 1700+
512MB DDR SDRAM
VIA KT266A based Soltek Motherboard.
two 40GB EIDE IGM 60GXP hard drives.

To fix the problem:

I increased the voltage going to the processor, from stock voltage to 1.850. Seems when the CPU is maxxed out it needs a bit more juice!

hope this helps someone out there...

Core voltage for that processor is 1.75 (1.7~1.8). Sounds like your power supply might not be up to par.

Go to overclockers.com and check out their forums on power supplies. It's amazing how many PS's are underpowered. If you have the ability to monitor voltages in your bios or desktop, check out your 5v readings most particularly. Anything below 4.85 can cause problems.

Vegas has got a lot more stable since I increased the core voltage, so I guess it must be my power supply!

I've got a fully loaded machine, so it probably is finding it difficult to hand out enough juice.

I'll bump up to a 300W supply soon as I can.

Might get a 19" rackmount case while I'm at it.. hehe.

VV3, all of a sudden, is not rendering the tracks for me. Has anyone else had this problem? I select the tracks and make sure the loop is for the entire song and then I try to render it to a new track. It appears to work without error and the file is about 40 megs, which is right on the money, BUT there is nothing in the file. It doesn't play anything back. That is it plays fine but... no sound! It's a blank huge file. I'm recording at 24 bit/44.1.

Any clues?

PS. I've tried "render as" also with the same results. I've also tried to render it as a 16 bit file...same thing. % ^ (

try rendering with no loop area whatsoever. Also check the tracks to ensure nothing is soloed or muted. Finally, check that tracks or any additional busses are routed to the master bus, as otherwise renders will be empty. It's possible you have configured Vegas to mix in hardware - i.e. routed busses to multiple soundcard outputs. To mix in software, (two channel stereo output)ensure al busses are routed to the master buss.

if that doesn't sort it out, let me know, I'll have a think :o)
