More VST3 Plug-in issues

Phil_P wrote on 10/11/2024, 4:20 AM

Sorry, I know this is a bit of rant, but I do feel kind of justified, as I have been with Vegas since its conception and paid every year for upgrades, with the hope that the audio side will be addressed.:

I got tired of the VST plugin scan happening every time I start Vegas. It starts at about 75% and seems to mainly be due to UADx plug-ins.

  • So I went into prefs and unchecked all the UADx plug-ins.
  • But they still get scanned on every start, even though they are unselected. (And in some other operations they get scanned again too, I have mentioned this in another post).
  • I tried creating a specific (VEGAS VST3) folder and Symlinked only the plugins I want to use. Looks good but... Many of the plugins just don't show up or even work properly when this method is used.

Another issue is the delay / latency compensation just does not seem accurate. When adding plug-ins to a dialogue track, audio becomes out of sync, (including when it is rendered).

Please can someone on the Audio Department of Magix have a look at this. It is very frustrating.

My only option at the moment is to export dialogue and process it in Wavelab or Nuendo etc.

All of these issues make the workflow very painful.

Cheers,

P

I came to report pretty much the same situation! In v21 I unchecked all the VSTs I didn't want to use in Vegas and Vegas started swiftly, without scanning the myriad of other plugins I have installed (for use with my DAW). In v22, despite unchecking them, Vegas no longer respects the list and scans all plugins. UAD are definitely the worst, but there are a few others that cause the scan to slow down. I'm not noticing the latency problem, though.

Cheers Ian, not just me then.

Maybe none of the testers use a lot of VST Plugins? (I get it, main focus must be on Video as it should be).

I have indeed ended up with the separate folder and system links but only for a few that I know work using that method.

The Melda plugins are fine, as are Sonible and most of the Plugin Alliance and a few others, (even most of the Waves surprisingly). UAD... (regular or x) Forget it. iZotope also no go (due to their odd dll placement I think).

With the ones I have selected, V22 now starts fast enough to not warrant pulling hair out.

Attaching a screen if what I have found that work using this method:

Nope, not just you! In fact, I made a bit of an error in my post . . . . it wasn't working fine in Vegas Pro 21, I had just narrowed the search paths to two specific sets of plugins I use frequently (FabFilter and Crumplepop). Just doing the same in version 22. It's a shame because there are a couple of UAD plugins I would have liked to use and a few others than every now and them might prove handy, but this seems the only way to not take two minutes to load Vegas every time!

Do consider joining the beta program (see the news section of the forum) if you want to contribute to improving the audio side of the program.

Thanks @RogerS

I have applied. I do actually do a lot of official testing for various companies. So let’s see…

I was in the beta program for several years, but work got in the way and I wasn't contributing enough. That's still the case now (thankfully!).
