Morphing transition?

Sunflux wrote on 6/3/2008, 4:42 AM
I'm currently working on an interview where I have to make several judicious cuts, and I got to thinking of how a local comedy/interview show does this when the subject/environment isn't changing positions much and they don't want to cut away. (It's the Rick Mercer Report on CBC in Canada if anyone is familiar.)

Basically, what happens is - very quickly - the picture pauses, the still morphs (not fades) into the new scene, and then it continues. It's a nice, subtle effect, but I don't have any transitions in Vegas that actually morph between two scenes.

Any suggestions?

I've used WinMorph for this: http://debugmode.com/winmorph/

It is free.

I use

FantaMorph

There are dozens of morph programs. You can use the free one at Debugmode, but I did not find it very useful, even though I use other things that Satish has developed.

If you use a better morph program, you can morph moving images as well as stills. This might be an advantage for you with what you are currently trying to do.

I'm waiting for the morphing app they used to make this video!

Black or White

Since the "Black or White" video is over fifteen years old, I'd suspect that most morphing programs available today (including those mentioned in this thread) are at least as advanced as whatever was used back then.

The key is careful choreography during shooting and someone with the patience to set the dozens (hundreds? thousands?) of "points" on each segment to be morphed into the next.

Rob, I can't find any that morph video. Do you know of any such programs? And if you watch the video carefully, you'll see that it is far more than a simple "morphing program." Watch the hair, for example.

The only ones I'm aware of, like those in this thread, only morph still images.

Morpheus Industrial will morph video http://www.morpheussoftware.net/

Andrew, I don't see anything on their Web site that says it morphs video--moving pictures. All their products are "photo" morphers, as far as I can tell. I don't see anything called "Morpheus Industrial."

If you could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciated it.

It's there. But if you download the trial it loads some kind of adware on your machine.

Is there anything besides WinMorph that works as a Vegas plug-in?
bStro wrote on 6/3/2008, 10:25 PM
Jay, the aforementioned FantaMorph can use AVI as an import format.

In addition, here are a couple others that will morph video:

MorphMan

VidMorph

I've watched the video "carefully" enough, thanks. I've also done morphing off and on since shortly before that video came out. I'm nowhere near an expert, and I don't have the skill or patience to do anything that complex. But I assure you that the hair is done just the same as any other morphing. It just takes a lot more reference points.

Rob, these programs output video from stills they've morphed, but I don't see any video that shows video to video morphing.

I went to the MorphMan site, watched a boring worthless demo, but it never provided any finished video (none that I could see).

Can you proivde any links that show a completed video using video and not stills?

Thanks!

Jay, I went to the VidMorph site and found this in their description of VidMorph Pro:
Morph video-to-video. morphing technology for professional .video studio
Morph Video-to-Image and Image-to-Video. professional morphing technology
Morph Image-to-Image, standard morphing feature with powerful quality

However, unfortunately they don't show any examples which seems a bit strange.

Jay

Winmorph does Video morphing only avi if i remember uncompressed is your best bet to import and export
bStro wrote on 6/4/2008, 8:20 AM
Jay, the Fantamorph page I linked to has a tutorial and an example that shows both input videos and the resulting output video.

As for the other programs, the sites themselves state that they (VidMorph, and Morphman) work with video as input. If you don't believe them, then download the trial programs and try for yourself. No, I don't have links to any example output.

RE:Vision RE:Flex is the professional choice for what you are looking for. It can do morphing between video sequences, and works very well.

Of course it has professional pricing too ($595.00), and it runs as a plug-in for AE, C*, Shake, etc.

Morpheus Industrial: http://www.morpheussoftware.net/morpheusmorph/about.php

It doesn't have any adware and I've tried all of them and prefer this one. I still use FantaMorph too.

I downloaded the trial version and it tried to install Adware.Dealio onto my machine. I don't know exactly what it does but I quarantined it. By the way during install it asked if I wanted to install something or other (I didn't pay much attention). I said NO but it still tried to install Adware.Dealio.
