Most used Keyboard Shortcuts for a keyboard overlay...

Hello all,
I've been kicking around the idea of designing keyboard overlays for Vegas Video. It would be custom made labels that you could place over your keyboard keys to clearly mark some of the common shortcuts for Vegas. My question is this...What shortcuts do you use the most? And which of those shortcuts would you like to see labeled and color coded on your keyboard? And finally, is this even something that interests anyone? -Shon

I'm not exactly sure how interested I would be... but, the keypresses I use a lot are:

Space bar - play/pause (or play/stop depending on configuration)
CTRL-ALT left and right arrows - move to next "event" on the selected line
Numpad 2, 4, 6, & 8 - move the selected clip in the selected direction
CTRL-A - select all
s - split
Numpad "/", "*", & "-" - insert a crossfade, dissolve, or Linear Wipe at the current cut point on the selected line (holding down CTRL makes it half width)
m - set marker
n - set CD track
jkl - play forward or backward at various speeds or stop.
CTRL-up arrow - set timeline width to the selected region

of course, CTRL-X, CTRL-C, and CTRL-V (cut, copy, and paste) and CTRL-Z (undo)

I'm sure there are many others. These are the ones I use most.

The "keytoppers" that I used to use (stick-on labels for each key) for WordPerfect had up to 6 different color coded words on each key. Different color for "Plain," Shifted, CTRL, ALT, CTRL+ALT, etc. There were close to a hundred of them, if I remember correctly. Used to sell for $9.95, or so. Made up a whole die-cut 8 x 11 page.

You should be able to get MOST of those used by VV, regardless of what people ask for. Be ready to change for VV4.

Yes, I'd be interested in a set for VV4.

Adding to what jetdv listed:

i = set "in" point
o = set "out" point

If you're producing a keyboard overlay or custom keycaps, I'd suggest waiting a little bit (and perhaps get in touch with us) so they will be useful for Vegas 4 instead of Vegas 3.

Now there is a really good hint. WAIT, but not too long.

Do I detect a leak in the bucket?

Wouldn't it be nicer to think of it as a OVERFLOW of wonderful new features?

However, hopefully none of the keys suggested will change between versions. Maybe some new keys to be added???

There are some fun new keys for Vegas 4, I just got to play with them last week.

The keyboard accelerators remain in flux up until the keyboard guide chart (that goes in the box) goes to print, and then typically 1 key changes after that <g>.

Like I said, if anyone is interested in doing keyboard overlays or stickers for Vegas 4, please get in touch with us.
