I'm very happily using an Asus P4PE here for video (Vegas 3 & 4) and music (Cubase SX). I already had a firewire card so I bought the cheap version w/o firewire, but I understand others have used the firewire version with no problems.
The P4PE will work with the new HyperThreading CPUs also.
I don't own one of these, but I'm intrigued by the specs.
The ABIT IT7 - MAX2
Onboard OHCI Firewire - TI chipset
Onboard Highpoint ATA 133 controller
Onboard Serial ATA
This board has 4 IDE channels - two of which support ATA 133 which permits the use of any size hard drive without the need for proprietary software overlays. In addition, it has two serial ATA channels and ships with an adaptor to allow the serial ATA controller to address an IDE drive.
Ahhhh. Jack yes it does on paper. I love looking at mainboards specs. You know we are geeks when we look at them as like we are looking at a playboy magazine centerfold. LOL
I think asus makes a good product and NEWEGG.com is a great place to buy from.
Their shipping is low!!
I recently replaced my old MB with an ASUS P4b533E (tigerdirect had a great price on them, though I think they're out now). It's a very nice motherboard for a video editing system, it has two 1394 ports, SIX USB 2.0 ports, AND two separate IDE controllers (besides the main two) for setting up an ATA133 Raid 0 or 1 array (for video editing, Raid 0 would be the way to go). The only thing it does not have on-board is video, which you probably don't want anyways since you can buy a nice video card for the 4X AGP slot. I've got two 80GB 7200RPM Maxtors (also Tigerdirect for $109 each) set up on the Raid 0 array and it's awesome. I have my DVDRW, CDRW's, and system hard drive set up on the other idea controllers so there's no contention at all between those devices and the Raid 0 array I use for 160GB of high-speed (parallel accessed via Raid 0 striping) video storage. I think the motherboard was around $130. I've used a lot of different MB brands and I was very impressed with the ASUS docs and "extras" they included (all the right connectors, etc.). Great stuff.
OUCH! MSI is danger, will robinson...danger.
Stick with Asus, SuperMicro, Tyan, Gigabyte. Anything else is risky. Cheaper, but risky. Remember, I get over 1000 mails a week from the 13 different forums I moderate around the world. I see more problems from low end motherboards than anything else.
I just bought a gigabyte for my 3.06 HT systems, and that's what we're using on the VASST tours as well.
I got an ABIT board and I had lots of problems with it . I fixed everything but it was p in the a... flash the BIOS, installing 4 in 1 drivers (VIA/ AMD) etc... and just """try""" to get support via internet now; pathetic. You have to go to "Paul's unofficial etc. site".
You want my opinion? I'm never gonna buy ABIT stuff again, even if everything works now.
I did order a asus mobo. I liked my dual asus mobo. Good stuff.
Douglas. The mobo you are using is the same one I am having a prob with.
I am getting video glitches on recording and when using external monitor I get digital blocky video and audio is glitchy.
Odd. I am going to try this asus and see if anything shakes loose.
I always seem to find the one that is a bit off. ; )
