Hmmm...working fine here on both laptop and desktop. You're clicking inside the timeline window? In other words, the timeline or Trimmer has focus?

It is working fine for me, but I was on the phone with one of my editors and he said that on the same machine with V5 and V6 he can zoom in fine in V5 but V6 zoom with mousewheel will not work. We could not find a setting in preferences, so I thought it might be somewhere else.

If you're using Mouse driver software, make sure you disable the default mouse wheel actions for use in Vegas. MS Intellipoint includes a preferences option to exclude certain applications from default mouse-button actions.

This is likely NOT the solution to your problem, but I thought I'd bring it up all the same - since it vexed me greatly at one time:
My mouse wheel mysteriously stopped working on my wireless Intelimouse several months back... everything else was swell except that doggon wheel. I reloaded/updated all drivers, cleand the contacts and even banged on the mouse. Nothing helped. Then, a few weeks later, the mouse started behaving choppy. I replaced the batteries and everything worked! More fool me! It was just a weakening battery. Apparently, the first thing to go on my Intellimouse is the wheel. It fails a few weeks before anything else with dying batteries.
Since then, I have purchased rechargable batteries and swap them out every month or two.

I am having the same problem. I booted up my computer today and the mouse wheel zoom didn't work on the timeline. I can still scroll the timeline using Shift + Mouse Wheel and Ctrl + Mouse Wheel but no plain mouse wheel for zoom. The zoom does work in the Trimmer and also in Sound Forge so I know that Vegas reads my scroll wheel. I spent a number of hours uninstalling and reinstalling both Vegas 6b and 5d with no solution.
Then, out of the blue while I was editing the mouse zoom started working again. I didn't change anything. Just from one click to another it started working. I finished what I was working on and shut down. Now the mouse zoom isn't working again. Is there any settings to change or files to replace? Any help is very much appreciated. Its almost impossible to work using the keyboard to zoom.
Thanks

I seem to have found a solution for this problem. Since I am editing on a lap top, I have to minimize the dock area. There is a bug in which Vegas is not getting focus on the timeline after minimizing the dock. The way to get the mouse zoom to work again is to close all tabs in the dock area and the mouse zoom will return. Hope that helps anyone thats having the same problem and hope Sony can fix it in the next update.
