.mov audio options

The options for controlling audio quality via compression appears to be limited compared to the options for the .wmv format. The best compressed audio I could get was using the Qdesign music 2 option - and it results in audio that is- well - too tinny and cheap sounding. The only other option for better sound quality appears to be uncompressed. This drives the file size up by a factor of 2.

I have VMS V6, but I just tried the Platinum V9 demo. It gives more options for the audio - but I couldn't seem to get the same audio quality as I could with the .wmv format (CBR, windows media audio 9.2, 128 Kbps, 44KHz stereo) - in a file size that is similar.

Am I doing something wrong - or should I just resign myself to file sizes that are basically twice as big when rendering to the .mov format? I need to produce some training videos for web viewing/downloading. I am producing the content on a PC system - and sending it to someone with a Mac (who will prep it for internet viewing).

When I produce a sample 7 sec video, the .wmv version (128Kbps 44KHz stereo) video file sounds great and is 951Kb in size. The same clip prepared in the .mov format (Qdesign music2 audio) is 848Kb in size with audio that sounds poor and cheap. However, if I produce the .mov format with uncompressed audio - the file size becomes 2039Kb.

thx
