.mov file editing to .mov

I have been playing (as a side task) with the output of my point and shoot waterproof/underwater Olympus which takes video at 360x240x24 and saves as a .mov file. While using Vegas 9a to edit and stitch together several shots on the river, I found that I couldn't come close to getting the file-size of the rendered new .mov file to be anywhere in the ballpark. One setting I noticed was that Vegas 9a was assuming it was 720x480, so that made a difference. Keeping the 8bit mono audio at 8 bits helps, too.

A couple of 10 Mb video files stitched together results in a 4Gb rendered output. This is totally out of whack.

Any suggestions as to what the settings ought to be for a low-def application? Some of this stuff is merely going to You-tube for family viewing.

Thanks.

Here's a few suggestions to make this easier.
First of all, set your project properties to match your source video.
If these clips are the ONLY video clips going on your timeline, open your project properties window (File - Properties), click on the Match Media Settings icon (top right - looks like a folder, browse to the folder where these files are and double-click one of them.
This is done primarily to make it easier for Vegas to edit the footage.
Audio properties will have to be set manually.
When you're in the source video folder, click one of the files and make note of it's audio properties.
When you come back to the Project Properties window, click the Audio tab and make the necessary changes.
Finally, click Apply in the Project Properties window and you'll now match your source video and audio properties.
Save this as a preset if desired.

If this is meant only for YouTube, select MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4) as the Save As Type and Apple iPod 320x240 Video as the Template.
You can also try the Sony AVC (*.mp4, etc.) Save As Type with the Internet 4:3 SD 30p Template.
Be advised that this will upsample your video as it defaults to 640 x 480 @ a frame rate of 29.97.
This can be customized by clicking the Custom button next to the Template box and then selecting the Video tab.
You'll see several options in there.

If you want to do other things with the footage, please let us know and we can advise accordingly.
