MOV file problems

I apologise for raising this topic again, but I have had no luck finding earier posts.

I am using Vegas Pro 12 Build 770 (64 bit) which is the latest version before 13.

My problem is with adding 24p MOV clips from a Panasonic GH3 to the timeline (ALL-INTRA 72Mbps). Neither 50p (not ALL-INTRA) MOV nor 25p ALL-INTRA MOV files present a problem. I want to use 24p because I want to burn to Blu-ray.

The clips in 24p MOV appear with the video content extended beyond the end of the audio track (repeating the last frame), and around five times the duration of the audio.

I heard that this was a bug in earlier versions, but never seemed to be resolved. One suggestion was to use MP4 rather than MOV format, but this is of no use with the GH3, because there is no option for 24p, only 25p at a lowly 20 Mbps

I am wondering if anyboby has had recent eperience with this problem and has a solution.

A bit of further information: I have tried adding 24p MOV files (not ALL-INTRA) to the time line from an Olympus OMD EM1, and found no problem at all. Video and audio durations for a clip are equal. So, it would appear that the extra freeze frames added to the end of the video happen only with the Panasonic GH3 24p MOV video clips. The mystery deepens.

It's the same issue as here which mentions gh4 and gh3 http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=894138

I'd just get it out of the mov container to mp4 using the method in the link it's just re-wrapping the content so won't degrade the file, it will fix the issue and also save you from the pain and limitations of using 32bit QuickTime on windows. For the gh4 I just record in mp4 directly and trim the clips in the timeline as I use them, a bit of a pain but no big show stopper (but please fix this and the gopro footage reading sony :) )

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping that it was just a problem with the GH3, but from what I have read, the GH4 24p MOV files also are affected. Who to blame, Panasonic or Sony?

It is strange that 24p MOV files from an Olympus OMD EM1 are fine in Vegas. It is only the GH3 (and apparently the GH4) files presenting a problem.

I suppost an alternative solution would be to shoot in 52p ALL-INTRA (which works fine in Vegas) and burn Blu ray discs using 50i rather than 24p, but there would surely be a degrading of quality, with interlaced video for the final output.

I wonder why the problem is limited to 24p MOV files from Panasonic GH cameras.

Who know who is to blame :-) All I know is in reality it's slightly annoying but is trivial to resolve and not something that keeps me up at night, the quality of the footage in both cameras is great!

Vegas has never been very forgiving about what it wants to decode.
That goes triple for MOV formats.
