,mov files

I downloaded Quicktime 7.7.9 for Windows , which I know is not supported by Apple, and now I can see the files in the preview area, add them to the time line, and play back but I only hear the sound and the video is all black. I see just playing the file with Quicktime does the same (black with no sound). Is there a way to view/edit the .mov files with Vegas Movie Studio?

Media Info please https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Mov files can contain a variety of codecs. If Quicktime cannot play them correctly there is possibly something strange about them. Where have they come from?

They videos are from an iPhone12. I started to download the MediaInfo then it lead to a general website about a program to update the drivers on my computer so I didn't download it. I found codec info using VLS media player. One of the .mov files is MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.265) (hevc). Is Vega Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 or Vegas Movie Studio 17.0 supposed to display videos from an iphone? These seem to be .mov and that cannot be changed on the phone.

I found the right site for Media info. Here is the text.

@Van-Wadlington It's probably the Dolby Vision HDR that is causing your problem. There have been a few threads on this. Here's two. Whilst they relate to Vegas Pro the comments will mainly also apply to VMS.

Try switching off the HDR.

I turned off High Efficiency and was using Most Compatible. Those are the 2 choices for camera formats. When I choose Most Compatible I can see that HDR video is turned off. Still hear sound but see black screen with mov clips. I remember a year or 2 ago when I last used an mov file that it worked with Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 after I installed Quicktime. Now Quicktime won't play them, but my Windows 10 Movies program and the old Windows Media Player play them. I see Movie Studio 17.0 trial version doesn't play them either. Also, that doesn't have an Explorer to add clips. Was I missing something? Also, I asked earlier - is Vega Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 or Vegas Movie Studio 17.0 supposed to display videos from an iPhone? In Movie Studio 17.0 when I select Add Media and view the file types that can be imported I do not see .mov.

You are best advised to trial the Platinum version of VMS17. The basic version is very restricted (in my opinion). The lack of an Explorer to add clips is probably one example of its restrictions.

Yes, VMS17 Platinum is supposed import mov files. They are listed in my Platinum's "Add Media" list. But as mentioned earlier "Mov" is just a container and mov files can contain a variety of codecs. VMS may not be able to handle them all.

There is also a bug in the latest VMS builds in that the Quicktime plug-in is broken. Hopefully it will get fixed soon. My experience is that mov files that VMS 17 Platinum can open using "so4compoundplug.dll" still open with the latest Build 204. But mov files that need "qt7plug.dll" don't open even if the QT plugin is enabled in deprecated features. Something seems to have got broken between builds 179 and 204.

Could you upload a short problem mov file to a file sharing site such as Google Drive so others can download and try.

Thank you for staying with me Eric. The trial of VMS17 Platinum had an Explorer which is great, but the program doesn't play the sound or audio from my .mov viles. I can't drag the clip from the Explorer to the time line, but I can play and drag those files after they are converted to m2ts clips. See unlisted video 45 seconds . The Windows 10 Movies & TV program and Windows Media Player both play video and sound from the same .mov files. Any other thoughts? Is there any documentation that MSV is supposed to play .mov files? A year or 2 ago I could play with Quicktime and VMS 13 Platinum but now I can't play with either.
