.mov files show only audio in Vegas Pro 18

Marc-Gold wrote on 3/7/2021, 12:33 PM

.mov video filmed on my iphone show no video, only audio in Vegas Pro. The same files, when converted to MP, show both audio and video. I'm familiar with the change in the 'deprecated settings' menu in preferences and have selected the Quicktime plug-in, and I have Quicktime on my computer, so I'm not understading how to make the video show up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe we can help you if you give here the exact MediaInfo of the original .mov file, following exactly this tutorial: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Run the files through Handbrake and bring into Vegas as .mp4.

@Marc-Gold The VFR2CFR util in my signature has a built in option to output to mp4 instead of say an input .mov file. The ‘M’ key toggles it on or off.

Probably the file extension is triggering a different decoder? Right click on media, look at properties and you'll see the decoder being used. I doubt it's Quicktime for any of them.

UPDATE: I found out that the iphone 12 has a setting under the 'camera' tab, in the sub-menu called 'format', where you have the option to select 'most compatible'. That changes the format that photos and video are recorded in to jpeg for the photos and mp4 for the videos. The format on the videos still appears as .mov but the files open without any problem in Vegas 18. Here's the article: https://www.maketecheasier.com/iphone-use-jpg-instead-of-heif/

Way to go. I think hevc is only essential if you need say 8k, well done.
