Which the OP said was going to be used on the Internet.

Yes this is their goal, to use it on their website, so I hope they at least put it at 720p when they are done.
How ever, he is asking for the best render in .mov that I can give him.
His closing line was this should fit on a dvd....
Well not at 29 gigs for one of the 5 files that I need to render.
That's why I was like, hmm maybe I'm missing something.
So since my project settings are 1440x1080i and quicktime doesn't offer that setting, I think I'm more inclined to go up rather than down in quality.
I don't know.... it's all b.s. to me.

You should always charge your regular post-production hourly rate for "extras," otherwise they will always come up with something else they want for nothing.

I would never downrez before editing, regardless of the delivery dimensions. It's counterintuitive to my thinking -- just my hangup, I guess. These days, "internet" delivery can be anything including full 1080p.

Jay, the bitrates are the same on the 720p files. It won't make the files smaller. All he's going to be doing is throwing data away.

1440x1080 is INTENDED to be displayed at 1920x1080, which is why it has a non-square PAR. When rendering DNxHD square pixels need to be used.

Good gracious...

Why would ANYONE downres before creating a master? So what if it's going to the internet? Tomorrow they may want it on 1080p Blu Ray. What are you going to do.. recapture from the original footage?

Take your BEST quality through master, then create your deliverables. Just basics people.

Well, I put it in the OP hands and gave him his choice.
I too believe start with the best and then you have options.
Ya, I will charge them, it's rediculous...
Thanks guys again....
