Mov Stu 13 Plat Uninstall Problems

Win 7. Started receiving error rmessages when attempting to start.  Had versions 64 & 32 on sys.  64 never worked.  Also, had earlier versions on sys.  Attempted to uninstall ALL Sony "movie" products and reinstall from CD.  The install program still "thinks" 13 is installed.  Have gone to registry but must be missing some existing entries.  Any help to get this going would be appreciated.  Also, is 32 version more stable than 64?

Thanks

RESOLVED THE ISSUE!!

FINALLY WORKED IT OUT AND WAS ABLE TO LOAD THE 64 BIT VERSION!!!

Removed all existing Sony Movie Studio software from windows/program files (x86) and program files

Removed all start menu/launch programs

Uninstalled all software Acid, etc. via Windows uninstaller function if it was available to uninstall

BEFORE ANY REGISTRY MODIFICATIONS, I MADE A COPY BY EXPORTING IT VIA REGEDIT EXPORT FUNCTION.  ALSO MADE COPIES IMMEDIATELY AFTER ANY REGISTRY PROCESS

Used jv16 Power Tools x to clean and compact the registry.  Still could not load Movie Studio Platinum 13/64.  The system install kept “seeing” the version already loaded.

Used CCleaner to clean the registry.  Same as above.

Finally…

REGEDIT from command line

(See YouTube “How to delete software registry keys from system registry)  There are several helpful videos.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER

                SOFTWARE

                                SONY

                                                MOVIE STUDIO PLATINUM

KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

                SOFTWARE

                                SONY

                                                MOVIE STUDIO PLATINUM

Still this did not solve the install problem.  There is a function called “Find” within REGEDIT.  I did a “FIND” and “FIND NEXT” on the string “platinum”.  I removed each entry that was an unambiguous reference to the software (If not sure … leave it).

Restarted the computer.

Successfully loaded the software.  WOW!

Thanks Nick

In this situation I would use Ccleaner (free version) to clean the registry. Proceed with caution. You can really damage your system using this type of software, like I did a few years ago. I recommend taking a system image backup with Acronis TrueImage etc. before you use it. Also Microsoft doesn't like Ccleaner and has been known to automatically uninstall it during Windows updates etc.. But when it works, it does make a nice job of cleaning things up. I've also used the Tweaknow registry cleaner a lot in the past.
