i just got movie studio and noticed when playing a video clip when it reaches the end of the video on the time line the line keeps going is there a way to make it auto stop at the end of the video so i dont have to press the stop button when it gets to the end
Double click on the video clip in the timeline. This should draw a region around the video clip event. Now when you play the clip, it will stop at the end and return the cursor to the beginning of the event.
You can also draw your own region independent of any particular event. Move your mouse to the marker/region bar (above all of the tracks and above the timeline tickmarks) and then left click and drag your mouse. Hit play and then you'll see the same behavior.
You can also turn on "loop playback", which when you hit play will continuously loop through the region until you hit stop. You can turn on looping by clicking on the loop icon to the left of the play button (beneath the tracks) or by simply hitting the letter "Q" on your keyboard.
Now that you mention it, this is an odd thing. All SonicFoundry/Sony non-destructive editing composing software does this. I've been scratching my own personal brain for the past few minutes trying to think of any reason why this would be more desirable than stopping at the end of the project. I can't think of even one single reason. And while there's no particular technical reason to stop, it is annoying.
The software obviously knows where the end of the project is since one can click the End of Project button and the cursor is positioned there. Why wouldn't the software stop playing when it gets to that point? Weird.
Agreed. Perhaps we should suggest this as a future option in the options menu. I can think of any reason why anyone would want it to keep playing past the end of the project either.
