Movie Studio 10 and Windows 8.1

Are there known issues with Vegas Movie Studio 10 Platinum and Windows 8.1?

I had this software on my Windows 7 computer and I had very few problems. I even had a few oddball codecs installed.

Now I installed it on my new Windows 8.1 computer. I'm doing a more complete project with a few dozen video clips and I'm having major problems. It seems that after a certain point, the product gets unstable, usually when adding additional clips, then locks up, cannot find the video stream in new clips, the preview window flashes red, or I get a low memory warning (I have 12 GB RAM - it's NOT out of memory). If I start the project from scratch I'll be OK for a while then the issues start again.

I've upgraded my Quicktime and reinstalled twice - and these problems still occur. Don't tell me to do a clean install - that's BS and I don't have a week to rebuild everything from the OS up.

Are these possibly issues with VMS 10 and Windows 8.1? Will I get better results with VMS 13? Will 13 open vf files created with 10 or do I need to start my project over?

I assume you've tried running Movie Studio 10 in compatibility mode and/or turning off themes to see if that makes a difference.

That said, I would certainly recommend downloading the free trial of Movie Studio 13 and giving it a test drive.

You should be able to open your version 10 project in version 13 -- but I'd keep a copy of the original project file, just in case it doesn't work or you decide to go back to version 10.

Thanks, I installed a trial version of MS 13. I made a lot of progress today, but what I can't find is the stabilization feature. I go to the Video FX plugins, but it's just not there. Do I need to upgrade to the paid version for that?

Have you tried right-clicking on the clip in the Project Media panel and selecting Media FX and then selecting Sony Stabilize from the Plugin Chooser?

That's a tip from my book, available on Amazon, by the way.
