Movie Studio 11 Capture Video Problem

So I have been trying to capture video using this program which I have only had for a few days, so I am very new to it. I am trying to use the webcam on my computer to do this, and it will allow me to record, but when I go to stop it, and add it to my media it pops up the little error box which says

"An error occurred during the operation, An Exception has occurred."

Then it doesn't add it to my media list, and frustrates me. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Use another capture program, certainly one came with your webcam?
Vegas vidcap is designed only for DV / HDV tape capture through firewire.

Hi Lanier,

Sony's Video Capture is a great, built-in way to capture from any installed source on your system directly into clips, ready to be edited on your Timeline. I myself used it to record from my TV Tuner card to record shows to watch later, turning my PC into a TiVO back before TiVO even existed, it was great!

There are a few things you can try, but the main problem encountered when recording was that the set resolution is not compatible with the input. What I mean is, that it might be trying to record in a resolution that the webcam 'doesn't like'. For instance, some webcams will state they can do "1280x720" but when you try to record at that resolution, it is very choppy and frames are dropped or audio is out of sync, which if bad enough, can result in a corrupted file (or one Vegas 'thinks is corrupted') and then you get an error.

There are a bunch of tutorial videos that show how to record with a webcam with Vegas out there, and they also talk about checking/rechecking/fixing your resolution, and a few other things. Here is one picked randomly:

Also, make sure that your webcam software is installed, so that any drivers (system files that allows Windows to use the hardware/cam) are installed.

Good luck with it and have fun!
