Movie Studio 12 can't sync in pink

Howdy,
Just started using MS12. I just have one video and audio track about 20 minutes long. My mic is plugged directly into the camera, so I only get one channel of audio. I had been using Adobe Premiere Elements 9, and in that package I use the Audio Effect 'Fill Left' to fill in the other channel. In MS12 I didn't know about the Channels/Combine option, but now I do. However, before I figured that out, I tried to use SoundForge to fill out the other track. But it errored during saving, and when I opened the file back in MS12 the audio and video were slightly out of sync. Of course, SoundForge is a destructive edit, so the original file is gone too. I fixed the sync by shortening the video a little and dragging to the left, and both tracks turned pink (showing out of sync I guess).

Now I can't seem to sync them. If I render or make a movie the tracks are out of sync. I tried Synchronizing by Moving and by Slipping on both tracks, but no luck. I've got them synced in MS12 for the playback, but not when I render. I know it's probably something real simple, but I'd like some help if somebody has it. I really like the Sony package better than the older Adobe one, but I'll have to go back if it's going to be this out of whack. Or just that I'm not as out of whack on the older package!

Thanks
Bruce

Sound Forge is not destructive.
Just revert to the previous TAKE. It is all still there.

Once you get the sync straightened out ... back to the one channel only problem.

Rather than "fill in" the missing channel, you can just tell Vegas to only use the existing channel. You will see the channel with the sound expand and fill up the entire track (top to bottom) The blank side will be gone. This gives you a mono track that, when rendered, will be equal on both sides of the stereo image.

Right click on the audio track.

Thanks for the reply. I may have misunderstood something I read somewhere about Sound Forge editing. But according to the Sound Forge glossary, at least some of the time there is a destructive edit. I quote.

"Any time you delete a section of a sound file in Sound Forge Audio Studio, the sound file on disk is actually rewritten without the deleted section."

On the other hand that may be just for a certain type of edit. Or Sound Forge could've damage the file when saving (for whatever reason when it errored while saving).

As far as the original file, I deleted the file that was in Project Media and re-imported. However the preview is still out of sync (on the 'Best' setting). I tried rendering with the fresh copy of the main file. It rendered into 1920x1080-30p mp4 and seems okay now.

I thought I had deleted the media and reloaded, but maybe I just dragged it to the Timeline without reloading.

Thank you for the help. It is much appreciated.

Sound Forge is destructive. I think what musicvid meant to say was that when you "open copy in sound forge" and then save your edit, Vegas has created a new version of it and put this on your timeline for you while the original, unedited version is still there. Selecting the audio event on the timeline after that and pressing T (for Takes) will toggle between them. You can also right-mouse-button click and choose Takes from the popup menu to see the list of available versions.

That makes sense. Thank you also for the assist.
