Movie Studio 2.0

I'm very excited about the new Screenblast Movie Studio 2.0 due out next month (with, among other things, DVD production capabilities and a separate track for layering and effecting text). But Sony couldn't have been quieter about it. If I hadn't stumbled across a mention of it on Amazon.com, I wouldn't have even known about it!

Has anybody else heard anything?

I think this is a very big deal -- a pretty significant upgrade to one of the most powerful DV editors on the market!

Oh well. That said, does anyone know if Sony (or Sonic Foundry) has plans to offer a discounted upgrade to its current loyal users?

I hadn't heard a thing. I take it Screenblast Movie Studio 2.0 is a Sony version of VF2.c but with a few enhancements. This link gives some news of Sony's buy-out of Sonic Factory: http://www.sonicstate.co.uk/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=1089 I knew of their financial probs a few months ago. I couldn't appreciate the irony of a company which makes some of the best products on the market having problems when other firms producing inferior stuff should prosper. I hope the new merger will bring nothing but good for SF.

I asked VF support about how (or if) they will help VF users migrate to Movie Studio. They responded that they have made no decisions yet as the purchase of Sonic (or whatever part produces VF) is still in process. They said they will post a FAQ covering these issues at some point.

This is true. The shareholder meeting to approve the sale is currently scheduled for July 29. This means Sony doesn't own VF yet.
