Movie Studio Platinum 12 render crashes

When I render in Movie Studio Platinum 12 I get the msg that movie studio is not responding and and the software locks up when I run another version of MSP 12 and scrub the time line.

Previously when I rendered and looking at cpu usage in task manager each of the 8 threads were showing around 25%.
Now while rendering cpu usage is 95%.-100%
I'm using mainconcept and have the option of rendering with
open cl .If I select to render with opencl the cpu usage doesn't change and remains the same between 95-100%

I appreciate any suggestions you can offer.

First thing: update video driver, motherboard driver, processor driver pack (if applicable).
Second, check CPU and GPU temperature during rendering. Sometimes overheat can cause freezes of GPU driver lock up.
Third, check your material for superwhites and superblacks. Few times in the past I've got SonyYUV codec crashes because of 0 in black. There are no scopes in MS, but you can use mask generator to detect colors below 16 and above 235 with limits controls (I hope they present in MS). For a dirty check apply Broadcast colors filter and render - it's supposed to deal with such colors, even though it will affect picture.
Fourth, check if you have gaps between events. Sometimes small gaps less than frame size can crash render.

As a last comment, I'd not recommend to use open cl for final render. It does not do as well as CPU rendering.
