Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 (64-bit) Crashing issue

SpikeMW wrote on 6/28/2016, 3:04 PM
I just got a new computer with windows 10 on it, and it has 16gb of ram. Now, I've recorded a bunch of videos and I've been trying to edit them in Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 64-bit, but after a minute or even less of being in the program, it crashes. I've copied the crash report, here it is:

I don't know what to do, but if this keeps up I can no longer use Movie Studio Platinum. I love this program, I know how to use it, and I feel at home with it. Is there any way I can fix it? If you need any other information I would be happy to oblige. I would like a fairly quick resolve, though. Thank you.

Hi Spike,

While you are waiting for others to reply with a resolution, some additional information may help.....

You say you are familiar with Movie Studio, and have a new Windows 10 computer. This would imply you used a previous computer to become familiar with Movie Studio. If this is correct, what Windows OS was on that computer?

Was the previsou computer a desktop or laptop, in the the new Windows computer a desktop or laptop?

Which graphic card (GPU) did you use in the previous computer, and which graphics card is in the new Windows computer?

You state you recently recorded a bunch of videos. Are these videos recorded with a camera, or are the recordings from a camera phone like iPhone? Or perhaps a desktop recorder like OBS? Are these recordings of computer games?

When you were using your previous computer and Movie Studio, did you successfully process the same type of source media you are having problems with now?

Some, or all, of the answers may help get a quick solution to your problem.

The previous computer was a desktop computer with the OS being Windows 7 Professional with an Nvidia Geforce GT 730.

The new computer is also a desktop computer with Windows 10 Home and an Nvidia Geforce GTX 960.

I recorded some games with screen recorder software called Action! by Mirillis, and a recorded my face using a webcam as well.

Before I was able to process and render the same kinds of videos easily, but now the program keeps crashing.

I hope this information is useful :)

I have found a fix to my problem.

After looking up "Movie Studio Platinum 13 Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)" I found this: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/showmessage.asp?messageid=814953

I appears I was having the same issue, turning the GPU acceleration off has stopped it from crashing, I hope this helps anyone else with the same problem!

Hi Spike,

Sorry, I was out of the office a few days, but glad you found a solution to finish your project.

I'm sure you checked to make sure you are using the latest GTX 960 card version. In addition to the information you already have, here is an article (if you haven't read it as yet) which may shed more light on GPU acceleration and graphic cards..... https://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/SonyVideoCards.htm.

Also, as you probably know, Magix Software has purchased Vegas Pro and Movie Studio. They have announced a new release of Vegas Pro this autumn with most likely a new release of Movie Studio following shortly. Nothing is for sure at this point what will be included in these new releases, but hopefully Magix will address some of the graphic card issues.

Best Regards.....George
