Movie Studio Platinum 6 Won't Start

I've been using Movie Studio 4 for a while and recently paid for the upgrade to Movie Studio Platinum 6. Everything appears to install OK, but when I try to start the program the splash screen appears, it starts to scan VST plug-ins, then the following message pops up:

"The instruction at "0x0b4b415b" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written"."

Followed by the options of OK to stop or Cancel to debug.

The instruction and the address are always the same.

I uninstalled and re-installed. I uninstalled, disabled virus protection, firewall, and anti-spyware, and re-installed. No luck.

I followed Sony technical support's suggestion to remove the RAM, clean the contacts, and re-install the RAM. No luck.

Sony technical support then suggested clearing up space on the system drive, but my drive has about 12GB (50%) free.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Thanks in advance!

There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in this, so I guess it's not a common problem.

However, I have found a solution after a lot of Googling and a lot of trial and error. Maybe it will help someone someday.

Under Control Panel | System | Advanced | Performance | Data Execution Prevention, I added the executable file for Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.0 (VegasMovieStudioPE60.exe) to the list of allowed programs.

That did it.

Thanks for the follow-up. I didn't even know such a thing (DEP) existed.

In your path (or at least in mine), there is actually an extra step to add just after Control Panel:

Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Data Execution Prevention.

Mine (Windows XP SP2) apparently defaulted to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only", so I guess it didn't object to whatever VMS is doing.
