Movie Studio Platinum Preview stopped working

Cannon Fodder wrote on 10/1/2014, 5:46 PM
Hi,

I purchased the software about a month ago and played with setting up a small movie. I tried viewing the movie last night and it will no longer play in the preview window. After starting Movie Studio no video will play, whether in youtube in EI or Chrome and not locally, and no MP3's will play either. If I re-boot the problem goes away. I tried un-installing and re-installing and I can play videos and MP3s until I start Movie Maker again. To be clear, all I have to do is start Movie Maker and then close it and nothing will play.

I have Windows 8.1, an i7 CPU, a Nvideo 780 graphics card and 16 gigs of RAM. The software worked fine a month ago, but not any more, even after the clean re-install.

Any ideas? Thanks for any responses.

Derek

Did you check if in your computers task manager in applications and/or processes(like: sfvstserver.exe moviestudioplatinum130.exe) are present after you close the program, if yes, end them, that might solve the problem.
also, do you use asio driver like asio4all in the program, if yes then if exe files from movie studio dont close, the asio drivers block the sound from regular windows devices.

Hi U4Ya,

Thanks, but when I start move studio it shows in the task manager and disappears when I close movie maker. I use a USB audio interface for sound, a Steinberg CI1. When I unplug it I can use movie studio as normal. I got some strange "codec not found" error messages when I was fiddling trying to play MP3s. When I re-booted I can play them as normal. It seems that Movie Maker and the Steinberg suddenly became incompatible, and I don't know why.

Thanks,

Derek

It occurred to me that the only thing I had changed on my system was getting a new keyboard. The old one was a PS2, the new one is USB. Just for fun I plugged the keyboard into a USB to PS2 adapter, and guess what? Everything works now. So the combo of a USB audio interface and a USB keyboard messes up Sony Movie Maker. Who would have thought this!

Thats good that you sorted it out. my next qestion for you would have been if you instolled any new software or hardware. Anyway, if sony software works, try keeping the computer same way, because sometimes small change and the sony software can become unstable.

Cheers

Yes, thanks, I was surprised that the audio interface would handle 3d audio in shooter games and not Go Pro audio. I am thinking that sony ms simply wants the audio interface to have exclusive use of the USB hub with nothing in the other port. The PS2 adapter was a cheap and easy fix and the software is now in ain't broke mode.

I appreciate your input.

Are you using a an actual USB hub? Try plugging in one of the USB items directly into your computer rather than the hub. Sometimes there are conflicts (not just for Movie Studio) when you plug 2 USB devices into the same hub. USB ports on monitors work the same way as a hub. For the keyboard (or audio), try plugging it directly into the computer.

Everything I have is plugged into the back of the PC. What I meant was that I was using two ports on the back of the PC that could have been connected to the same header on the mother board.

Thanks for the suggestions!
