Movie Studio Won't Build Audio Peaks

I recently gained a video file that i wish to edit with, however when i import it into Movie Studio Platinum 12, the audio will not show up. Movie Studio doesn't try to build audio peaks at all, and when i add the media to the timeline the audio file is labeled as 'Media Offline'. Restoring all offline media doesn't effect the files at all. I can play the media in multiple programs, such as Windows Media Player, and the audio has no troubles. At this point i am at a loss as to what my problem is and how to fix it.

Xvid and Divx really aren't editable formats, and they frequently misbehave when you try to edit them.

Where did this video come from? Do you have access to the original camcorder video?

If not, you may need to use a converter to convert this video to more standard DV or MPEG2.

Thanks for the clarification! No, i do not have access to the original camcorder video. What would be a converter that you'd recommend?

There are a number of free converters out there -- but many include some sort of spyware or don't convert to a genuinely editable format.

Here's the best converter I've found on the web. But it costs $35.

As for free converters, Super is one of the most versatile -- but some people object to it because it's Chinese software and will install extra stuff if you let it.

Make sure you choose as your output DV Digital Video (not AVI).
