Moving car passing by jerky on loop play?

Gid wrote on 1/23/2025, 1:53 PM

Hi, could someone try this pls.

This is an MP4 constant AVC clip rendered out from VP22 (239), there's two cars pass by, the first car isn't too bad but the second car on the second & subsequent plays stutters a little, it's most noticeable between the trees. I don't remember this clip stuttering like this 🤔

This is the orig that plays smoothly, or not jerky like in VP https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eUK-1hOh4066UzSKlIJLrqGgzj14YFcr/view?usp=sharing

I only see a squirrel running for his life when the second car approaches. To me this looks like a typical not pure smooth playback of Vegas despite the frame counter is not hampering.

Gid wrote on 1/23/2025, 2:46 PM

@3POINT Thanks, it plays ok on the first play but then becomes jerky, this seems counter intuitive, I've got more than enough PC power to play this simple clip, I tried enabling Legacy AVC with no improvement but that is just a backwards step that I wouldn't & shouldn't have to do. 🤔 I also tried rendering it out as ProRes & reimporting it, same slightly jerky playback.

Yep the squirrel was lucky. 🐿

Does the rendered out media play without this tearing in another player?

Gid wrote on 1/23/2025, 3:00 PM

@VEGASDerek No , the render seems fine, main reason I haven't brought it up before but for whatever reason I couldn't ignore it & had to ask if it's my PC or VP. Without being specific a lot of files don't play absolutely smoothly.

PS. & this isn't a complaint but I've read on here more than once people being told not to expect playback in VP as smoothly as a 'media player' would play it, I agree with this but .......

I have tested the media you provided and do see the issue. We already have this issue in our bug backlog. I will make sure the team discusses this at our next planning meeting. I believe this is an old problem...possibly it will be resolved as we rewrite the engine, which would also include the preview viewport.

Gid wrote on 1/23/2025, 3:22 PM

@VEGASDerek Thanks, yep as you say it is an old problem, I know that for more than a yr you've been making major changes & respect that, so I'm just patiently waiting.

There was this post just recently about the latest 237 & 239 release so I was trying several different files I have, variable &/vs constant.

This was released shortly after VEGAS Pro Build 237, to fix a bug related to media with a variable frame rate.

... audio/video sync issues

I couldn't repeat the sync issue but that's when this came to my attention (or was still happening) & so had to ask. 👍
