What's New in VEGAS Pro 20 (from the Readme file)

  • White balance controls: The White Balance controls in the Color Grading panel help you correct colors caused by light temperatures that weren’t accounted for in the camera during shooting. Different types of lights have different color temperatures with sunlight of around 5,700 Kalvin being used as a “natural-light” baseline target. The Temperature slider enables you to adjust your color temperature to more closely match sunlight so that whites really look white instead of having a color cast from incorrectly set color temperature. The Tint slider enables you to lighten or darken your colors by adding a magenta or green tint. The Color picker enables you to sample a neutral color (white or gray) and have the software apply an automatic temperature adjustment for you.
  • Hue vs. Hue color curve: This curve enables you to isolate a specific range of color (hues) in your video and change the hue of that range to a different hue. For example, if someone is wearing a blue shirt, you could isolate a range of blue hues and then adjust just that range of hues to a different hue value in order to change the color of the shirt without affecting any other colors in the video (although anything within that blue range will be affected, not just the shirt). This can be used for a drastic special effect such as this, or for more subtle color grading and correction that affects just a specific color range in your video.
  • VEGAS Hub mobile app: Upload media files directly from your mobile device into your VEGAS Hub cloud storage.
  • Automatic project collections: A Project collection organizes all of your project’s assets into a single view that you can easily access through the Hub Explorer window. These collections provide fast and easy access to all of your projects and their associated files. When you save your project, VEGAS Pro automatically creates a project collection, or updates your existing collection. You can then access the media within a project collection and use it in the same or a different project. You can upload your collections to your VEGAS Hub file storage to archive your projects and the associated media
  • File Drop: The File Drop feature enables you to quickly gather media for your project from collaborators no matter where you or they are located. It makes transferring files to the project’s editor very easy. With File Drop, you can invite anyone to upload files to your VEGAS Hub storage space and from there quickly download those files to your local drives so you can use them in your projects.
  • New VST 32-bit bridge (beta): The new improved VST 32-bit bridge allows legacy 32-bit VST plugins to be used within VEGAS (which requires 64-bit). This provides improved stability and performance of these legacy VST plug-ins.
  • VST3 support (beta): VST3 is the latest version of the VST standard for supporting audio plug-ins such as reverbs, delays, equalizers, and so on inside digital audio software. VEGAS Pro can now support VST3 audio plug-ins along with the VST2 plug-in support that it has supported in previous versions. Support for VST3 ensures that VEGAS Pro can work with the most modern VST audio plug-ins available.
  • New GL transitions: Two new transitions have been added: Honeycomb creates a honeycomb effect that transitions from one video to the next. Color Planes breaks the images into their RGB components, changes from the first image to the second, and then recombines the three color planes into one composite color image of the second video
  • Transition Progress envelopes with animation: The Transition Progress envelope enables the user to control the rate of a transition over time and animate the progress so that it goes fast, slower, or even in reverse. This gives the user power to create custom transition behavior and includes Bèzier curve tools for complete control over the rate of change between animation points along the curve.
  • Scene detection creates regions: The Scene Detection plug-in now features the ability to automatically create regions over the detected scenes of the clip inside a timeline clip event. These regions appear on the timeline and can be useful in a number of ways including as a mode of the Batch Render script to enable the user to quickly render individual files for each separate scene that has been detected.

VEGAS Pro 21 Build 300 - 6th April 2024

New Features:

  • AI Text-Based Editing (beta)
    • You can use the Speech to Text features to create a transcript of your project video and then edit the transcript—for example, delete a section of text or cut and paste text, etc.—and VEGAS automatically edits the events on your timeline to match the edits you made in the transcript. The opposite is also possible. For instance, if you trim an event on the timeline, VEGAS Pro automatically edits the transcript to match. This workflow can greatly speed up your editing process. (Please provide feedback on this feature, so we can improve it for the full release in the future.)
  • AI Smart Mask 2.0 plugin
    • This plug-in uses AI to identify objects in your video and accurately mask them. You can create up to eight separate masks and apply tracking to them so that the masks follow along with objects in the video even if they’re moving. This can help you replace backgrounds without having shot in front of a green screen.
  • AV1 GPU support
    • Support for AV1 continues to grow in VEGAS Pro. With this step, AV1 decoding utilizes GPU decoding codecs on Nvidia and AMD hardware which supports AV1 decoding.
  • New preferences to manage .sfk files
    • Two new preferences enable you to manage newly created SFK files. The Hide new .sfk files preference flags newly created SFK files as hidden so that they honor your Windows Hidden Files settings. The Do not create .sfk files to store peak data preference prevents VEGAS from creating .sfk files.
  • Optimized GPU processing for AVC & HEVC files
    • VEGAS Pro now employs a newly optimized, more efficient pipeline for decoding more AVC & HEVC file subvariants. This results in much better timeline playback performance with higher, more consistent framerates for accurate previews.

VEGAS Pro 22 Build 93 - 29th July 2024

The VEGAS Pro Edit offering has been renamed as simply VEGAS Pro. VEGAS Post offering is no longer available.

New Feature list:

  • Text-based Editing (full release)
    • Improvements and refinements have been made to the Text-based Editing tools based on the feedback we received during the beta release cycle. You can now more efficiently edit your video timeline by performing edits in the text transcript.
  • New Multicam Audio Sync
    • Synchronizing multicam events based on the audio from the clips the events hold has been completely reworked. You can now select multiple events and quickly synchronize them with options optimized for the type of audio contained in the clips.
  • AI Auto Reframe
    • This AI-assisted tool automatically reframes your video when the delivery size of your final render does not match the original aspect ratio. For instance, if you have a standard widescreen video and need to deliver it in a square format for Instagram or other channels, this tool shifts focus to the most important object in the video and keeps it centered in the new frame size while other material is cropped out.
  • AI DeHaze
    • This AI-assisted plug-in analyzes your video for hazy elements like smoke, fog, smog and so on and removes those elements in order to create a more crisp, clearer image of your main video element.
  • AI Sharpen
    • Driven by AI, the AI Sharpen tool analyzes the edges of objects in your video and enhances them to give the image a crisper, clearer lock. The enhancement can be used to improve your video’s clarity or in many cases as a special effect to give your video an unnaturally crisp look.
  • AI Smoothen
    • You can use this AI-driven tool to soften small details in your video while preserving sharp edges. This can result in a cleaner, more stylized look where fine details are smoothed out, but edges remain clear. You can use a small amount to give your video a subtly softer appearance, or a large amount to create more of a special effect on your video.
  • Beat Detection
    • The Beat Detection tool analyzes a music file (or music in a video file) and marks highlights, syncopated hits, drum rolls or any “interesting” events in the low-mid and low-end of the audio frequency range. The markers serve as snap objects, so when you add the file to your timeline you can easily edit your video to the musical beats.
  • Tempo Detection
    • The Tempo Detection tool analyzes a piece of music (or the music in a video file) to determine the tempo of the piece and automatically sets your project properties to match the detected tempo. This makes editing the project easy, as you can now set your timeline ruler to measures and beats and use the grid as orientation and snap points for seamless cuts and edits in time with the music.
  • Timeline Selection improvements
    • The timeline selection techniques have been refined to make selecting events even easier. An intuitive left-click on an empty timeline space now enables you to start a selection rectangle which you can modify in order to select whichever events you want
  • New Welcome Screen
    • The Welcome screen has been completely redesigned to make it even more useful in helping you start your editing session. Three tabs give you quick access to new-project setup, previous projects, and materials to help you use VEGAS more effectively.
  • Set the project tempo
    • New menu options make it easy to set your project tempo. With these you can easily open the project audio properties and enter the desired tempo. When you then set your timeline ruler bar to Measures and Beats, the ruler will accurately reflect the project tempo. When you match the project tempo to the tempo of the music in your timeline, you can easily use the ruler to edit to precise measures and beats of the music.
  • Explorer window redesign
    • The Explorer window has been reimagined and newly designed to provide a more efficient user experience. It’s now easier to navigate to your media files, preview them, and organize your view.
