Moving project to new drive

I just installed a 2nd drive. The 1st was 90% full! There are a couple projects I've been working on that I would like to move to the new drive, where there's a whole lot more space. But just copying to the new drive doesn't change where the project file points for the location of the existing media. Is there a way to completely move a Vegas 7 project to the new drive?

Yes, but it won't preserve your folder structure. Open the project and then chose Save As. check the "Copy and Trim Media" box and then save the project to a new location. You'll next get a dialog asking if you want to trim the media. I assume you don't. Finish the dialog and Vegas will copy everything to the new folder. The projects file pointers will point to the new media.

Having said this, it's usually not too hard to just move everything to a new drive and let Vegas ask where the media is. If it's all in the same folder Vegas will probably just ask once, if not, it won't ask too much. If you haven't got a totally tortuous folder structure this is fairly easy. In fact, I think maybe if the project file is just above all the media folders it'll check there first before asking. I might be wrong about that.

If your current project is in one folder, then it's super easy to move. After moving it, open your latest VEG file and it might ask you the location of a certain file that's not where it's supposed to be,point it to the new location and if all the files are in the same place, then it will update all the links. Save your VEG. Done. If you have files spread out in lots of folders you will have to inform Vegas where they are.

I sure wish this worked like it's supposed to. I have clearly had a few projects on which this positively does *not* work. I am really, really glad that checked this before deleting some items. I did, though, have a couple projects on which this *did* work; just a couple though.

It sure would be nice were this to get fixed so that it works reliably.

Wasn't there a script somewhere that was supposed to do just this kind of thing? Consolidate a project? I would sure like to see if it's more reliable than the built-in Vegas function.

Thanks.
