See if this helps and whatr you want:

http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=267&p_created=1020315600

I am assuming it will work with going to th next version, it worked for me on a reinstall of 6 to 6 but I havent tried it for 7 yet.
I'll let you be the guinnea pig ; )

Really it should work though.

Do you think that's likely to work across versions?

Also, it mentions video effects, but does it work with render settings/project settings/pan and trim settings?

Just got a response from Sony...

There is no such thing as an 'upgrade'. You're installing new software. No way to move settings from one version to another...

Does this strike anyone else as particularly obtuse? Doesn't sound like a hard feature to impliment, since they know where everything is stored...

Some are easy to move, some aren't.

-You can transfer filter presets and packages using the Sony Preset manager.
(I can't remember if this works for render templates, too or just the filter presets.)

-You can save keyboard remaps as an .ini file, then replace the "keyboard.ini" file in the Vegas folder with your own.

-Media Manager libraries and reference libraries can be saved and re-opened in the new version.

-V7 just added the ability to save and transfer workspace layouts (that will help when V8 comes out, but unfortunately, does nothing to help you move from 6 to 7)

However, almost everything else under the "Preferences" tab (default file folders, project settings, etc.) you have to do manually. It's been a ritual for me every time I upgrade.

I did manage to find where the renders were held and transferred from laptop to main PC

Can you provide some details, please? This would be handy info before I upgrade.

I used the tranfer tools that come with vegas and my customized render setting transfered if that is what you are refering to.

Hello,

Sorry to ask but concerning :
"-You can save keyboard remaps as an .ini file, then replace the "keyboard.ini" file in the Vegas folder with your own."
It doesnt seem to work...
Have you tried this?

And as a side note, in the previous release you could export/import your keyboard settings. This was great!!! Why wasnt this kept in? And why wasn't this idea generalised to all of Vegas settings?
At each new release you have to set all these things up again...
And no, the migration tools don't take care of everything...

Well.... I've done the .ini trick for keyboard remaps in Vegas 6.0d. I must confess I haven't had time to try that in the V7 demo. I guess I just assumed that Sony hadn't changed that feature.

Just to be clear, you have to rename your file to "keyboard.ini" before it works in 6d. Did you try that?

SOrry been busy, the MPEG settigs are here for the renders

c:/documents & Settings/"your folder"/Apllication data/Sony/File Templates/mcplug/{144AA77F-D7EB-4F0B-ACD5-61F03BDEFC36}

Get then from there and make a back up or copy them to the new locatio.

Good luck
