Mp3 audio screeches in Vegas 16 and Vegas 15 Pro but not in Vegas 13

Grandpabaj wrote on 9/8/2019, 1:24 AM

The mp3 audio in a video prepared with VMS 13 , when loaded into Vegas 16 ( or Vegas 15 Pro) screeches. I note that checking Properties of track in the VMS13 load it uses plugin mp3plug2.dll, ( i.e. MP3 Audio) however Vegas 16 and Pro15 use mcplug2.dll, ( i.e Main Concept MPEG-1) even though it is same video and same audio. The mp3plug2.dll is in the V16 and the Vegas 15 Pro File I/O file plug-in file. How can I make the mp3plug2.dll the default plug-in so that V16 recognizes mp3 files and plays them properly? The suggestion using Options/SHIFT Properties/Internal/compound and changing usage of Enable So4 Compound Reader for AVC/M2TS from True to False do not work. Would appreciate suggestions as it appears to be a widespread problem with MP3 and VMS.

I don't see problems with mp3 in all of my VMS versions, but can you show which template you used to do this "The mp3 audio in a video prepared with VMS 13"?
I'll like to try that also.

Same here as j-v. My mp3 open with mp3plug2.dll in VMSPlat16 Build 142.. It's obviously not a widespread problem with VMS. But are we talking about VMS or Vegas Pro as Vegas 15 and 16 is mentioned in the original post?

Grandpabaj wrote on 9/8/2019, 6:10 PM

Thanks j-v and EricNZ.. THis is info from original Vegas 13 video. and from Vegas 16 when the EXACT video is loaded into 16.

I  checked the Properties of the Audio track for the video when loaded into each of the programs and found that the plug in was for Vegas 13 Plug-In

  Name: mp3plug2.dll

  Folder: E:\Vegas MOVIE STUDIO\FileIO Plug-Ins\mp3plug2

  Format: MP3 Audio

  Version: Version 13.0 (Build 987)

Company: MAGIX Computer Products Intl. C

For Vegas 16 Plug-In

  Name: mcplug2.dll

  Folder: C:\Program Files\VEGAS\Movie Studio Platinum 16.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\mcplug2

  Format: MainConcept MPEG-1

  Version: Version 16.0 (Build 142)

Company: MAGIX Computer Products Intl. Co.

The File I/O folders of both versions have the same set of .dll files.

For Vegas Pro 15 ( Trial Version)

Plug-In

  Name: mcplug2.dll

  Folder: C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 15.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\mcplug2

  Format: MainConcept MPEG-1

  Version: Version 15.0 (Build 177)

Company: MAGIX Computer Products Intl. Co.

What I can't understand is why Vegas 16 and Pro15 both choose to use a different .dll for the audio, and make it unplayable. Also because of this, mp3 files in Windows Explorer are not 'seen' by them but are by Vegas 13.

@Grandpabaj Could you post a short problem mp3 file somewhere for us to download and try.

Grandpabaj wrote on 9/8/2019, 7:31 PM
Not sure how I do that? I tried uploading a bit of the .vf audio but it says it is unsupported format. Can you advise? Thanks

Grandpabaj wrote on 9/8/2019, 7:58 PM

I converted the .vf file to Dolby .ac and then to mp3.. But it is still trying to upload after 15 minutes!! Can you suggest another means. The converted file stllscreeches

Thanks.. I have loaded a file to Dropbox . Hopefully this link with give you access. https://www.dropbox.com/s/9tyzf8e2p07c62u/SCREECHING%20MP3.vf?dl=0

Let me know if I haven't sent the right thing. It is the .vf file from Vegas which was originally mp3 when done in Vegas 13. IT will open with Vegas 16

It's the mp3 file we need. One of the mp3 files you exported from VMS13 but which screeches in your VMS16. We can then try your mp3 file in our VMS16s to see if it's a file problem or a hiccup with your installation. If the latter we can then try to find a solution.

j-v wrote on 9/9/2019, 3:52 AM

I think you forgot this option, but as @EricLNZ already said, we only need the mp3 file and we don't need the project.
But we get it also when you select this

I had the same happen with VMSP16. It started happening after I upgraded my computer hardware (motherboard + cpu). I'm not entirely sure if it was hardware change or "soft reset" for the operating system which caused it.

It got fixed after I completely reinstalled VMSP16.

@j-v There's several mp3 files referenced in the vf file but we don't need them all just one 😀

@EricLNZ, indeed I was to hasty.👍
And for sure we don't need to see all the jpegs of that project.🙂

I am sending a representative mp3 which I used in the video. They are royalty free music downloads. Irrespective of which mp3 is used in VMS13 they all screech when opened in Vegas 16.

EricLNZ wrote on 9/9/2019, 6:58 AM

@Grandpabaj Unfortunately Dropbox is sending me around in circles this time and your file never appears. It's nearly midnight here so I'll try again tomorrow.

This is an incorrect Dropbox link.

Grandpabaj wrote on 9/9/2019, 4:54 PM

Sorry gentlemen.. got it wrong ! I tried j-v's 'copy media with project' option but it changes the file to a WAV and saves it as a .vf file. Not sure I am doing the right thing but here is the link.

@Grandpabaj But you've uploaded another vf (MovieStudio project file) not a mp3 music file!!!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/hc6pw525s8bb6zp/Morning_Mandolin.mp3?dl=0 Sorry.. This is the link to the MP3 Music file I used in the original

EricLNZ wrote on 9/9/2019, 10:26 PM

Thanks. Managed to download okay this time and it plays okay in my VMSPlat 16 Build 142. It's using mp3plug2.

Why your VMS16 is using mcplug2 is beyond me but in the thread I gave you a link to earlier another user, merlin-beedell, had found a workaround. Did you try it? Here it is anyway:

Grandpabaj wrote on 9/13/2019, 1:09 AM

Sorry I have been absent and just got your comment. Interesting that your VMS16 works correctly! I have not followed the merlin-beedell suggestion but will give it a go. Very disappointed in Magix support absolutely zero to my requests!

I have been having a real problem with rendered Blu ray freezing when rendered with VMS13. I think I need to set up a different post as it is quite a different topic from mp3 but have never run into it before for almost identical projects.

Will try the 'fudge' and hope merlin's magic works!! I assume he renamed it mcplug2.dll .

That nice mp3 tune plays fine here also.

EricNZ i tried using the thread of using mp3plug.dll in the mcplug2.dll folder and renaming but VMS 16 says error occurs and file is in is wrong format. So not working for me I am going to try a reinstall VMS16 ( I have build 142 latest) and see if it overcomes the problem.
