My new little stills-and-HDvideo camera (Samsung NV100HD) stores the video in 1280x720 (fine or normal) mp4 format.
The used mp4 format is obviously so special that Vegas (Full 8.0c and VMSP pro 9.0b) right now has problems reading it and until this is solved by Sony Vegas or by Samsung I have to convert the mp4 into something more edible for Vegas.
When I have to convert anyway it would be nice to 1) find a format where the quality loss is smallest possible and 2) where the size of the proxies are not too big (i.e. not more than double the original size) and 3) find a format where Windows XP SP2++ can show the videoclips as thumbnails (showing the first picture in the file).
Have any of you experience with this - and an idea as to which format - and conversion program - I should use (I am initially thinking of "Super" - but it must not be free if the result is "better" whatever that means here :-)
