MP4 Video

I'm a Vegas 7.0 user. When I select "Reder As" in the File menu, there is no option for MP4. I know Vegas 7.0 supports this format, because MP4 files are available to open. I would like to render in this format though.

Is it as simple as rendering in some other format then renaming the file extension? Would this ensure compatibility across all devices and OS's?

Select either "MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4)" or "Sony AVC/AAC (*.mp4)" in the "Save as type" dropdown box.
The former has iPod templates.
Which one you choose depends on your needs.

My Vegas 7.0e offers neither of these options. Is it supposed to, or are you thinking of version 8?

I'm using V7e and both MP4 options are there and work fine.

So mine is missing for some reason. It has never been there, and I never knew it was supposed to be there.

I guess I will try reinstalling...

Have you installed Quicktime? Not sure if that has anything to do with it but MP4s open in Quicktime by default so I'm guessing the codec may have come from there.

mpeg has been known to not function in cracked versions of Vegas. Are you using a legally licensed copy?

I don't use pirated software. No software installed on any computer I use is illegal.

For some reason though, I seem to attract bugs in software.

Yes -- I have QuickTime 7 installed. I don't remember if I installed this before or after Vegas. I thought it was installed before Vegas, but I don't remember.

Now that I remember, I had problems with the last update to Sound Forge. This forced me to delete keys in the registry for Sony products to correct the installation. After I did this, I had to re-enter all of my registration information in Vegas and DVD Architect. Perhaps this had something to do with the loss of MP4.

Both options for MP4, already described in an earlier post, are definitely available in 7.0 (and earlier). You do NOT need to install Quicktime (I don't have it, and I encode to MP4 all the time).

I seldom recommend uninstalling and re-installing anything, but in this case, this seems to be the most likely solution to the problem.
