MPEG-2 File renders with no sound, Platinum 9.0

Hello,

Here was the message I posted to support, only to be told this product is no longer supported.

Can anyone help me please?

"Hello,

I am trying to render a video - I want it in 1980 x 1080 format.

All the options make very large files, which is impractical for uploading over the internet except MPEG-2 format.

However, when I render MPEG-2 videos at this resolution, I get no sound on the finished file.

Perhaps it is because all the listed render options at this resolution say "Video Stream", and there is no customise option, so I cannot adjust the sound and video formats manually.

It looks like there are MPEG-2 formats that render with sound, but they are a much lower resolution of 1440 x 1080.

Please help me understand how I can render this format, at this resolution and still have sound playing.

Thank you."

Wow, what a joke trying to get help here.

First of all, my regstration for the site was lost, so I had to reset password etc etc trying to log in.

Then, finally once logged in, I posted my question, only for a prompt to pop up telling me that this product was no longer supported and to go to the forums.

Ok, so I went to the forums, tried to post a new topic, only to find, I now had to register again, even though I was already logged into the site.

Ok, so I did, that, registered again, logged in, went to post new topic, only to be told I had to select a forum username.

Ok, fine, I selected a forum username, and went to post new topic, only to have the terms and conditions pop up that I had to agree to before posting.

Now, I am finally here. I dont know if anyone from Sony is reading this, but what a joke. You guys charge enough for your products, you could at least make the user experience a little more streamlined. I have experience smoother and easier support on products that were free.

Anyway, thanks for the help if anyone can give me any pointers.

1. Support logins and forum logins are separate, for security reasons. They don't talk to each other. It's an inconvenience we all deal with.

2. What exactly is your use for 1920x1080 mpeg-2 video? If its for a BluRay, it's not supposed to have audio. That's a separate (quick) render. I'm not sure of the advantage over h264 you are looking for. MPEG-2 is one the least favorable upload formats because of its larger file sizes and processing times.

Well, I am going to upload the video to youtube.

This is the only format that I could see that did not create a huge filesize.

Can you recommend another?

Well yes, the Youtube preset in Movie Studio produces an AVC/h264 mp4 file, that is quite a bit smaller than MPEG-2, and just "happens" to be what Youtube (and the rest of us) recommend.

RTM, and best of luck.

Ah excellent. Worked like a charm, lesser size and better quality.

Thank you.

Wait.

This format is no good. Quality is excellent, and the estimated file size was 500MB.

I went to upload it, and it told me time remaining was 2000 minutes! I looked at the filesize and it is 30GB.

Then your settings were wrong or you uploaded the wrong file.
Sounds like you rendered uncompressed (again). 30GB is not right. 500MB would be about right, depending on length and bitrate, of course.

Post MediaInfo for the file you rendered using the Youtube template.
MediaInfo is a free download from Sourceforge.
